The soft pillows and comfortable enough beds helped, and there was plenty of hot water. The staff were reasonably friendly and courteous. Still, the room was bare bones and grimy, with hair in a bathroom that clearly hadn’t been cleaned properly. There’s no elevator, so you have to use the stairs. I arrived at 4 AM after a long night drive and had booked a reasonably priced room. My main complaint was the night clerk wouldn’t give us a noon checkout, even though we’d arrived so late and needed sleep before continuing our long trip. He offered 1130 instead and said noon would cost extra. I work in hospitality and try to accommodate guests when I can. I know late checkouts aren’t always possible, but this motel isn’t a resort, and some flexibility would have made sense. It wasn’t the worst motel stay I’ve had, but that refusal was frustrating.
The pillows were comfortable, at least. But we arrived at 4 a.m. and asked to leave an hour late, and they only gave us 30 minutes. After checking in that late, would another half hour really have made a difference? Our room door wasn’t even latched or locked when we got there. The shower was dirty and the bathroom floor sticky. The manager replied to my review saying I must have had the wrong place, but I copied the address from my receipt, so this is the right one. Two friends stayed across the hall from us. We were on the 3rd floor, and there’s no elevator.
I was charged for two nights even though I left in less than an hour, and I never got my money back. The night shift employee said they’d refund me if it went through Capitol One, but when I disputed the charge with Capitol One, the merchant disputed it too. They said I had to go through Capitol One because that’s where the charge was billed. I was exhausted after a 12 hour night shift and didn’t want to find another hotel at midnight, so I tried to let the first room slide even though it wasn’t cleaned and the bed wasn’t made. The second room felt sticky as soon as I walked in. Then I found pubic hair in the tub by the shampoo ledge, and a strange orange/brown stain on the bath mat. Before getting into bed, I checked for bugs as I normally do and found several tiny dead ones. When I told the employee I couldn’t stay and explained what I’d found, he said, “we don't have bugs,” as though I were lying. I draw the line at bed bugs. There was no way I could sleep peacefully with bugs sharing the bed, and management doesn’t seem to care. This dirty, infested place is run by dishonest people. Don’t stay here, and don’t waste your time trying.
A.J and the older gentleman were the kindest people in the world. But we had to buy cleaning supplies at Walmart across the street just to make the rooms livable, and perhaps a bit cleaner for the next guest. They were dusty, and the bathrooms had a lingering urine smell. We asked management to switch rooms, but the same problems were present in both. It’s a franchise hotel, and the price looked appealing, but you get what you pay for. When I spoke with General Manager Dhaval, I was told I wouldn’t get a refund for my last night because I hadn’t told them 3 days in advance. That seemed like a made-up franchise policy. Plans don’t always work out, and I had to contact Super 8 Corporate office to get my refund.
The management were polite and professional, and all the guests we ran into were respectful. It was quiet inside and out, and the room felt fresh, clean, and well cared for. The toiletries were all stocked and neatly arranged, which made settling in easy. My wife and I stayed at the Super 8 in St. Clairsville last night, and it was one of my better motel stays. We had no issues, and it’s clear the staff take pride in the place. Clean, comfortable, quiet, and well managed. We’ll be back and would recommend it to anyone passing through.
