Best Western Oak Meadows Inn

The indoor pool and hot tub are nice to have, though the tub wasn't actually hot. There's a sign telling people to shower first, but the shower doesn't work at all. Getting into the pool area is a bit of a timing game since the key reader doesn't work properly. The place needs a real remodel, maybe even a full rebuild. It's strange that Best Western still has its name on it. I feel like the company has forgotten it has a place in St. Helens, lol.

The breakfast room was clean, tidy, and had plenty of space between tables. There were several choices, with a few items changing each day. The pool and spa were small but clean, though there wasn't much seating. My kids loved all the Halloween decorations. I've never seen a hotel put in so much effort when it wasn't even hosting a themed event. We were in town for the Spirit of Halloweentown, and the hotel suited us well. The parking lot is small and wasn't ideal at every hour, but we managed. I also didn't notice when booking that the building has two stories and no elevator. Some of us have medical conditions and had recent surgeries, but one flight of stairs turned out to be manageable, though it might not work for everyone. The place was clean and convenient, and we were happy with our stay.

We come back a few times a year for weeklong stays because the rates are so affordable. The staff are amazing, and we feel safe and are treated well. Even with a full hotel, we didn't hear disruptive noise. Our room was by the pool, where lots of kids were swimming, but the pool room seemed well insulated and ventilated. We didn't notice strong chlorine smells, wet floors, or screaming. It's a small, family friendly hotel in a safe spot near shops and restaurants, with plenty of parking and a nice pool. The building has two floors and no elevator, so ask for a first floor room if stairs are an issue or you have a lot of luggage. They serve a full hot breakfast and coffee. The shower toiletries are good quality and mounted in the stall, which I appreciate since I have long hair and need extra. There's also a built in hair dryer, in-room coffee, a fridge, a microwave, and a heater and AC unit that worked well for us.

The EV charger on site was a nice surprise, and the price was really good. Staff were super nice and accommodating, the room was clean and had no odd smells, and the mattress was comfortable. It's on the softer side, but not too soft for my bad back. The complimentary breakfast was decent too. A great place to stay if you're around Portland.
