New company, same problems. The trash chute has been clogged for a week, so there’s no way to take out trash, and gnats have swarmed the whole building. I reported the clog to management on Saturday 05-30-26. They said a company came Wednesday (06-03-26) to fix it, but by Friday it still wasn’t working. Then they said a second company was coming Friday 06-05-26 to “hopefully fix it.” Let’s hope they do, because waking up with gnats crawling all over you, in the bathroom and living room, is DISGRACEFUL AND DISGUSTING. They can’t treat the gnats until the trash is fixed. Love paying $1,200+ a month to live at the “wonderful” towers at Opop.

I moved out about two months ago and still haven’t gotten my month’s deposit back. I’ve called more than five times. The day after I moved, I also wrote to the secretary who worked there then. She said she no longer worked there but would pass the message along. They had told me they’d return the money in a month, and there’s still nothing. Now they blame the old management and don’t resolve it. I always paid my rent on time and left my unit spotless, so why won’t they return my money? I spent more than six months without air conditioning. I asked them a thousand times to fix it, but they said they wouldn’t do it in winter. They finally fixed it a week before I moved out, funny, right? We also had only one elevator for the entire year. The building smelled like marijuana all the time, and packages were stolen from the fourth package.

Update, as of February 2024, I still hadn’t received my deposit after moving out in August 2023. The community manager, Libby Shubert, keeps saying the check is ready, but hasn’t sent it. At this point I find it hard to believe it’s actually ready. I lived in the building for a year, and problems began before I even moved in. I was told on arrival day that my apartment unit had changed. The new unit hadn’t been cleaned or painted, and it was never painted during my tenancy. The dishwasher couldn’t be used, and the sink disposal was so weak it kept causing floods. It didn’t feel ready for a new tenant. I put up with it because it was so hard to get the management office to understand that I needed a dishwasher door that could close while it ran and a disposal that worked. They did help somewhat, but often scolded me for making an unreasonable request about the dishwasher and blamed me for putting eggshells in the disposal. I couldn’t understand what a disposal was for if it couldn’t grind something as brittle as an eggshell. Whenever I raised an issue, management spoke to me like I was a child. I won’t make assumptions about race, but I couldn’t help feeling they talked down to me in a deeply disrespectful, almost disciplinary tone. I teach at WashU and would never speak to my students that way. I emailed several times and left several voicemails over the past month about the deposit, but heard nothing. I always paid rent on time, and I don’t understand why they’re holding on to my deposit.

The new company and management have been terrible for residents. For three months straight, water came into our penthouse. They never fixed the problem and just cut more holes in the drywall to “see” what was going on. We had to file insurance claims to repair a building we don’t even own. Then they raised rent on all the apartments and lofts while maintenance went off a cliff. Manager Amy Muenz was the most worthless manager I’ve had the (opposite of) pleasure of meeting. This was admittedly her first management job, and she refuses to communicate with tenants. One word for this company and its shady business practices: “trash.” Move here if you love moldy smells and being ignored by the new part-time “professional” management company. Yay Ōpop!
