Marie Davies made us feel welcome and cooked a wonderful breakfast while we were in town for a downtown business conference. Lehmann House was only a short five-minute ride from the Convention Center, with Park Ave’s many restaurants around the corner and a lovely park just steps away. The rooms are quaint and spacious, and mine had a fireplace. I liked that Mrs. Davies kept the main floor as it was originally designed instead of turning it into more rooms. Guests can use the well-stocked library and music room, and have breakfast in the nicely furnished dining room. If you enjoy charm, history, and maybe a ghost or two, this is the place.

Marie is such a gracious host, and I loved talking with her about old houses and picking up some helpful tips. The beautiful home is full of charming details, and its location worked perfectly for our weekend, from a concert at Powell Hall to the Lafayette Square Holiday Parlor Tour. Great restaurants are just a block or two away. We had wood fires in our room and at breakfast, which felt magical, and breakfast was delicious with plenty of variety. The stay made our birthday weekend especially memorable. We’ll be back. Thank you, Marie!

Marie was kind and accommodating from the moment we arrived, and we felt right at home. We spent two nights in Norah’s Room. It’s rumored to be haunted, but nothing unusual happened. The peaceful, comfortable stay still gave us a fun touch of history and charm. Breakfast was delicious each morning, especially by the fireplace, which made both the meal and house feel cozy. The home is beautifully kept in a lovely part of Lafayette Square, ideal for a quiet getaway. I also want to respond to the negative review from Timothy Carr’s wife. This is a private home run as a bed and breakfast, not a public attraction. Check-in hours are for registered guests, not unannounced visitors. I can understand why someone living there, especially a woman running the property alone, would be concerned if people entered without contacting her first. The response described sounds like a safety and boundary matter to me, not rudeness. I also want to address the suggestion that race or language (“we were speaking Spanish”) was involved. The owner was warm, welcoming, and professional during my visit, and I saw nothing suggesting bias. Guests from many backgrounds stay here. The house is beautiful, well run, and in a residential area where security matters. I had a wonderful visit and would recommend this B&B.

We were able to enjoy a real fireplace in our room on a brisk evening, which was the best part of staying at Lehmann House. The place has loads of charm and character, the food was excellent, and Marie was a very conscientious host. It’s well located in the city and not far from the highway if you’re passing through.

My husband and I were driving around beautiful Lafayette Square to see the houses decorated for Christmas when this B&B caught our eye. We pulled over to ask if we could get some information. A sign on the door said “check in from 4pm-7m,” so we opened it and stepped inside the mansion. We were in the entrance room for less than 90 seconds before a woman who seemed to be the owner appeared, very upset. She asked who we were and looked at us rudely, making us feel like thieves. We explained why we had come in, but she kept asking who had let us in and saying it was her private property. Of course we apologized, but she kicked us out and still seemed angry. I never expected that from a bed and breakfast during its posted “check-in” hours. Maybe it happened because we were speaking Spanish. We’re a young, eccentric couple. We’d been to the city museum beforehand and weren’t dressed our best, but her behavior was really disappointing. We had planned to recommend this place, or the magnolia or benton park bnbs, to some wealthy family members who appreciate old, restored homes. After this, we won’t be back. - the wife
