Quality Inn St. Mary's

The people running the place were nice, but the hotel itself was awful. There wasn’t a key card needed to get in through the other entrances, and there was no elevator. The towels and rags were stained, the shower curtain had a greasy-looking mark, and the coffee maker was dirty. After my toilet overflowed, they didn’t clean things up properly and left towels soaked with toilet water in the room. That happened once, and even after the no-option housekeeping. Then a roach turned up, as if it thought I’d bought it dinner. I called the health department and learned they already knew about this hotel.

The common spaces smelled musty, there was black duct tape all over, and the lobby bathroom ran out of everything: soap, paper towels, and then toilet paper. The room had a lot of problems too. I’d give cleanliness 5/10. The carpet was really old, there was an unidentified mark on the curtain, and the bath towels were stained and worn. The toilet didn’t flush right, several outlets didn’t work, the hair dryer was broken so I had to get another one, and the tissues were gone after just 4-5. The pool heater was broken, so swimming wasn’t possible.

We were impressed by breakfast. Along with the usual cold items, there were waffles, biscuits and gravy, scrambled eggs, sausage patties, and bacon. The staff were wonderful too. A young man held the back door for me a couple of times on checkout morning, the cleaning woman was friendly in the hall, and the manager was busy making sure everyone was happy at breakfast. I’d accidentally booked a double room for two adults, and it was a handicap room. The manager offered us a king room at no extra cost. He was great. It was clean and roomy, with a comfortable bed, two comfy chairs, and a big TV. We’ll definitely stay again.

We’ve visited twice now, and we’ll be back. The staff, who I assume are the owners, are really friendly and helpful. The pool was heated and got the kids’ approval, and breakfast was plentiful each morning. They even had the hostess chocolate cupcakes! Our king room had a balcony overlooking the pool. The bed was so comfortable, one of the best king beds we’ve had in a long while. The air conditioning kept the room nice and cool.
