Riverview Hotel

The window in my room didn’t have a screen, so I had to depend on the split unit. It seemed too powerful for such a small room: it cooled things quickly, but shut off before it could remove the humidity. The sink stopper was broken, and I could smell someone smoking up on the roof. On the helpful side, the staff kept my perishable items in the kitchen while I was visiting. It’s a historic inn by the waterfront in downtown St Marys, and staying there feels like stepping back in time.

It’s a historic place with clean rooms, right across from the ferry to the Cumberland island. The problem was the noise. Quiet hours start at 10pm, but the bar next door has outdoor seating until 2am, with loud music and people. I couldn’t get to sleep until around 2:30. They really need to address this, maybe by moving things indoors after midnight.

This old-fashioned family-run hotel has plenty of character, and it’s been in the same family for over 100 years. It’s reasonably priced, comfortable, and friendly, with an excellent restaurant and bar. You get a real taste of coastal Georgia, and it’s definitely not a chain. Don’t miss it if you’re going to St Marys. Highly recommend.

Chef Josh took great care with my severe allergies to beef, pork, dairy, tree nuts, and shellfish, making sure my Grouper sandwich had no cross contamination. It was perfect. The restaurant has a great seafood selection, and the server, bar staff, desk clerk, and the rest of the team were all fantastic. Owner CB also made us feel very welcome, and I’m grateful for the thoughtful hospitality. If you have kids, ask for room 8! lol I brought my 14-year-old daughter and my 77-year-old mother to spend Friday and Saturday night at the inn for a day trip to Cumberland Island. My brother and I had stayed here before, and I wanted them to experience the location, rooms, and service. I’d happily recommend this historic inn and look forward to coming back.
