Harbourtowne St. Michaels

The scenery was absolutely breathtaking, some of the most beautiful views around. But the property needs a major update, from the dining room to the bedspreads. I heard they were renovating, which is much needed. There was also a strange pricing issue: they promised me a rate, then wouldn’t honor it for the second night and wouldn’t budge, even though they weren’t sold out. So we left. There are plenty of other places to stay nearby. I visited two years ago, and Google has only just asked me to review it.

Breakfast was included, and we were expecting a buffet, which I hate. Instead, it was a full-service menu in the same beautiful dining room where we’d had dinner. That dinner was likely one of the best meals my wife and I have ever had, and we eat out often. Mike, the manager, was incredibly accommodating. We came for a few days of rest and found the place perfect for that, with a clean, comfortable room, excellent food and terrific staff. We’ll clearly be back.

We booked three rooms for a Saturday night, and the woman handling it was helpful, pleasant and professional. She sent the confirmations right away, and we passed the news to our friends, who sent us the money. Later, we got a call saying the reservations were being cancelled because there was actually a two-night minimum that weekend. I understand having that rule, but we should have been told before booking, and the system shouldn’t have let us reserve for one night. It was a very frustrating situation, especially since we were arranging rooms for more than just my wife and me.

The view from the 600 suite was beautiful, with water in every direction, and the front desk staff were very friendly and helpful. When we asked for a good crab place, they recommended a local restaurant called chesapeake bay, which was awesome. The room could have been cleaner, and my boyfriend told them about it when we left. Front desk and management appreciated the feedback and offered 25% off our next visit. We were pleased, and plan to bring my parents next time to enjoy a peaceful getaway, with extra cleaning requested.
