We left the car in the World Trade Center ramp for our whole four-day stay and got around St. Paul on foot. The cathedral, Capitol, Rice Rark, Landmark Center and other spots were walkable, even for us in our 60s with some knee trouble. The bus and tram stop is also just around the corner from the front entrance. The ramp was easy to use and pay for without an app, though the meter starts over whenever you leave. There are two spaces outside for unloading and check-in, and anyone using a wheelchair needs to reach the side entrance around the corner. The ramp is only a few feet from that door, with access to the St. Paul Sky Way on level three. We had the Celestial king room with a fireplace and balcony on the sixth floor, looking out at a gorgeous view of the state capitol. It was cozy, updated and spotless, with a comfortable bed and bathrobes. The hotel felt quiet, almost like a convent, and the hot breakfast had a tasty range of choices. Staff were friendly. Most guests seemed older. The one drawback was the thin walls: on one night we could hear the TV and other sounds next door. We were very glad we picked this distinctive place instead of a chain.

The beautiful chapel made breakfast especially enjoyable, and the room and the rest of the building were lovely too. My husband and I slept really well. A small issue came up during our stay, and Colleen and Carrie went well out of their way to make things right. They were exemplary, and I can't properly express how grateful we are. We'll certainly return and will be telling everyone we know about them.

The hotel's history gives it a lot more character than a cookie-cutter place, and I enjoyed the clean room and delicious free breakfast. We also ate and had drinks at the hotel bar and restaurant. It was tasty, though a little pricey, which we expected in the city. I was there with a friend for a Saturday night concert at the palace theater. We walked there and back and felt safe. Check the hotel's website for its suggested parking, and it's easy enough to plan. I'd stay here again if I'm in the area.

The building is lovely, and the cocktail bar is excellent. My room was comfortable, but getting a decent night's sleep was difficult. I was right below what I assume is a party or breakfast area, and there was noise until 11:30 p.m. Then the walking and what sounded like furniture rolling started again at 5:45 a.m. There was a white noise machine, but it didn't do enough. For $150, I expected a bit more.

If you care about architecture, the historic building is a treat. The lobby and bar are particularly nice, and the beds were more comfortable than I expected. The original windows can be drafty, but the room never felt uncomfortable. Parking is convenient, though the hotel doesn't own it. If you're staying more than one night, it might be worth losing your ticket, just saying. I really liked the place and would absolutely come back. Some of the one-star reviews seem completely out of line with my experience. I've never felt in danger walking around St. Paul at night, and the city seems to be doing better after Covid than a lot of places, with more life downtown than it used to have. Homeless people are around in every city, including San Francisco, whose visitor complained about feeling unsafe.
