I won't stay at this hotel again. My wife, our two young kids, and I had booked a room for a show and a family visit, but after riots broke out and two people died in the weeks before our trip, the show was canceled and we didn't feel safe bringing the kids into a situation that was getting worse. I called the hotel and explained my concerns to a kind woman. She checked with the manager, said they understood, and told me the third-party booking site would have to handle it. I thanked her and followed those instructions. The booking site later told me the manager had denied the cancellation, so they couldn't refund me. The riot wasn't my fault, and I don't understand why we'd bring our kids when a nearby show had been canceled for safety reasons. I feel the hotel misled me, and the manager lied. I'll take my money elsewhere.

The downstairs area had such a welcoming feel that I wanted to sit, relax, and talk with people, which is unusual for me. The staff were friendly and helpful, and breakfast was excellent. I don't usually pick Marriott hotels, but I would stay at this one when I need a good location. It was a pleasant surprise. My one small gripe: the free coffee downstairs in the afternoon wasn't hot, so I had to microwave it. I know, that's nitpicking.

The rooms are clean and spacious, and the staff are always friendly. I usually travel with my dog, and there's a little park nearby for walks. There isn't much else close by besides a liquor store, though the hotel is downtown and nearer the freeway. I also like how the garage and lobby work: pull into the secure garage, stop at the lobby entrance to check in, then drive up a level, park near the elevator, and use your key card to reach your floor. It feels safe and efficient, especially when you're a woman traveling alone.

We've just finished another stay here, and seeing the same staff again was a nice sign that the place keeps good people. Jimmy, also called Timmy, was fantastic again. We come to St Paul for a week every couple of months, and after staff at the other downtown Marriott we used to stay at seemed less friendly and service minded, I decided to try this one. I'm glad I did. Jimmy at the front desk has a silly sense of humor and still makes sure you're looked after. The main drawback is the downtown road construction, which the hotel can't control. The room and facilities are comfortable, and we'll gladly come back.

I've been loyal to Marriott for over 8 years and love its properties, so this was a first for me. I booked a room for two here and tried to add my partner's name to the reservation, but the desk staff said they could only add someone with the same last name. My attempt through Bonvoy messaging was denied too. When I asked whether this was a new policy, the staff member said it applied only at this branch. Management gave me a phone number when I tried to discuss it, but the number didn't work. I hope someone from management will contact me, make this right, or clarify whether there's an actual policy that keeps unmarried people from sharing a room. I also want to know this wasn't discrimination.
