Hilton Garden Inn Starkville

The staff made the stay especially pleasant, welcoming me from check-in through checkout. My room and the common areas were spotless, which matters most to me, and the cook-to-order breakfast was fresh and much better than a standard hotel buffet. The decor could use an update, but everything was well maintained, so it didn’t bother me. A comfortable, dependable choice at the Hilton Garden Inn in Starkville.

We had agreed on ballroom arrangements weeks ahead, but they canceled five days before the event and didn’t call to tell me. I found out only when I walked in. The sales manager repeatedly promised to return my calls and never did. Each time I went in, I felt foolish because the manager and desk associate seemed to have different information. I can’t speak to the lodging, but the service was poor and sloppy. I wish I could give half a star.

I found two roaches in my third-floor junior suite. I killed one, then slept with the light on to keep them away. After housekeeping had supposedly cleaned following my workday, there was a roach wing on my blanket. I’m not sure if they tossed the towel onto the bed as a joke, and it looked like they rehung the towel with the smashed roach in my bathroom. As a Diamond member and corporate traveler, I was very disappointed by how dirty this place was. I wouldn’t recommend it. The lobby coffee dispenser was disgusting, the business center was out of commission, and there were no restaurants nearby. My toilet also ran continuously.

The room and hallways smelled, as did the only working elevator. The facility was unclean, service was poor, and the woman at the front desk in the picture was rude. Still, it beat sleeping outside in the rain.
