Ridge Crest

We lost power in the middle of a winter storm. The main building has a power plant, but this building didn’t. Then the dishwasher broke, the kitchen sink failed, and the kitchen flooded. No one came to fix anything, and we ran out of towels because of the flooding. Nobody answered the phone when we needed help, so I checked out as soon as I could. This was the worst hotel I’ve ever stayed in. I own a timeshare with Holiday Inn Vacation Club, and they sent me to this hole. We’d reserved by phone months earlier, but it was our first time in the area and we didn’t know the buildings. Don’t buy a timeshare with them. They charge a premium, while you can book cheaper through Booking.com, and as an owner you don’t even get priority choosing a building. The website showed availability, but they wouldn’t give us a good room. It felt like they kept those open for Tripadvisor and Booking.com and put owners in the empty ones.

Even though we got the room through a free promo weekend package, I wouldn’t recommend this property or come back, even for another free stay. The rooms had new finishes and were comfortable apart from the temperature and noise. There was no AC in the middle of summer, so sleeping was difficult. We had to keep the windows open, which made it noisy, especially for a light sleeper. The walkways, stairs, and roof showed years of harsh winters, and the sidewalk was so broken up from ice melt that I fell and badly sprained myself. Amenities were lacking too. I was shocked there wasn’t even breakfast in the restaurant. At least a Holiday Inn Express has that. We were severely disappointed and hope Holiday Inn brings the property up to basic standards.

If skiing or snowboarding as much as possible is your priority, this works well: it’s right in front of Stagecoach lift, so you can walk to the slopes without waiting for the shuttle. The apartments were recently renovated and quite nice, with a comfortable bed. The building itself is old and not very nice, and anyone wanting a luxury stay can find much better hotels. We like skiing on the Nevada side because it’s sheltered from the winds and the slopes are good, so I’d come back.

After driving more than eight hours for this vacation, we arrived to find a room that didn’t match the pictures or the description. Their website advertises View king villas with “stunning views,” but the room we got was like the one in my posted photos. Management offered a $50 credit as a resolution. Save your money and don’t book here or anywhere through Holiday Inn.
