Comfort Inn & Suites Statesville - Mooresville

We had to drive another 30-40 minutes and try three other full hotels before finding somewhere to stay. Our travel baseball team had booked here together for our last tournament of the season, and after everything that happened, I just wanted to leave. I didn’t push for a manager or keep arguing about a refund because the only employee there had already said she couldn’t issue one. The rooms were in rough shape. Mine had mold around the bathroom faucet and shower head, old trash in the bin, a big stain on the couch, stained carpet, and marks on the mattress under the sheet and cover. Bugs and dust were visible inside the framed pictures. Another family found used towels and washcloths on the bathroom floor. They asked to have the room cleaned and fresh towels brought in, but the employee said she was alone in the entire hotel and couldn’t leave the desk. I never heard from the hotel afterward, despite complaints from our whole team. The indoor pool was green, had bugs in it, and smelled so strongly of chlorine that the kids wouldn’t swim. For the team’s pizza, we asked to use the dining room, which had plenty of tables and chairs, but were put in a small back room with just four chairs, no windows, and no air conditioning. It got hot fast. Check-in itself went smoothly for me, and the woman at the desk was polite. But the next family was told their booked double room wasn’t available and that only a king remained. I wouldn’t recommend staying here.

The key card quit working every day, and the Wi-Fi kept cutting in and out. Of the three exercise machines, only one worked. The pool was another big problem: it was advertised as open, but when we asked about its hours after paying, we were told it had been out of service since the snow. The hotel hadn’t mentioned that online or before we paid, even though the pool was the main reason I chose it for my kids. When I asked for my money back, they refused and pointed to a sign turned away at the far end of the counter, where it couldn’t be seen. This was the worst hotel I’ve stayed at. If they couldn’t refund all of it, they should at least have returned some.

I checked in, looked around the room, and checked right back out. The carpet was filthy and torn, and there was mold and cracking in the bathroom that needed repair. The air conditioner above the door was leaking even though it was 45-degree weather. I don’t know why it was on. The hotel’s exterior doors didn’t lock, either. I should’ve taken the room number, made from computer paper, as a sign. The online pictures must be very old because this place looks nothing like them. A horrible experience.

The packaged food selection was a nice plus, and I liked the variety of drinks at breakfast. But the sausage and gravy was watery, which was a letdown since I’d been looking forward to it. My four stars for service are about the breakfast, not the service itself. I’d give it 4.5 stars if I could.
