Microtel Inn & Suites by Wyndham Statesville

For the price, it’s decent. The room showed a lot of wear and tear, and some staff were friendly while others weren’t as much. Breakfast had a good selection. I didn’t find any bugs, which is a plus. Road noise was noticeable during the day but quiet at night, though you can hear nearby doors opening and closing. Overall, not bad.

Wifi seemed to be the best thing here. There was no poop, but this was one of the worst places I’ve stayed, and probably my first and last Microtel. We booked two rooms for six people, with just two bath towels and two washcloths in each. The toilets had pressurized flushes that didn’t work consistently, and the TVs in both rooms kept losing signal. The desk-looking surface under the TV had no chairs, and the outlet attached to its front was so loose and shot that nothing would plug in. The toilet paper holder was on the wall across from the commode, too far away. I’m six feet tall and had to lean a long way to reach it, so a child or older person would have a hard time. The bathroom drywall needs repair.

Breakfast had a few decent options, and the shower stayed hot with solid water pressure. That was about the only good part of my stay. The TV kept dropping its signal, and there were holes in the walls by the switches and phone line, stuffed with what looked like bubble wrap. The microwave powered on but its plate never turned. Bathroom vents looked untouched by cleaning, and the only ice machine that worked was downstairs. First time at this Microtel, and I won't be back.

The manager kept my deposit and tried several times to put charges on my card that I hadn't approved. When I stopped listening to his lies, he told me to dispute the charge because he wasn't going to return my money. Thieves and liars. Don't stay here.
