The cold room and floors made it hard to feel comfortable, especially on what was meant to be a romantic getaway. There’s no elevator to the upper floors, either, which caught us off guard. We were there during the recent snowstorm and found out the property has no backup generators. A power outage could have left our room without heat and the elevator out of service, and I would have wanted to know that before booking so I could make other plans. We chose the Blackburn after reading so many positive reviews, and I really did want to love the place. Breakfast was adequate, but lots of small things were missing during our stay. Each might seem minor on its own, but together they made the hospitality feel below basic rather than refined or special. For a place presented as charming and romantic, the lack of warmth, both literal and figurative, left us disappointed.

Roger from maintenance was remarkably kind. In the parking lot, he came over to ask if I needed a scraper for the rental car windshield so I could drive safely. It’s such an easy thing to do, yet it feels like the world has forgotten that. The staff were great throughout our stay, and the old historic building has a ton of history. Some of it is spooky, so maybe don’t read about that right before bed.

The 360 lookout was such a fun extra, and the staff were so sweet. When we mentioned why we were visiting, they offered us breakfast for free without us asking. Check-in was easy and welcoming, and the building felt clean and homey. Our room was really spacious, and the grounds are beautiful. We had a wonderful stay!

Alyssa made me a fantastic veggie breakfast bowl, so delicious it needed no hot sauce or anything. At breakfast, CJ kept me company over a wonderful cup of coffee, and we chatted about theatre, travel, and world events. Sage at the front desk was welcoming, kind, and helpful too. The whole staff was above average in every way. That kind of genuine care makes a real difference, and The Blackburn Inn is lucky to have them. Thank you!

We came hoping to see something haunted, and at night the place did feel a little creepy, though quiet and peaceful. It’s beautiful and well kept, and the rooms were in better shape than at any franchise hotel I’ve stayed at in a similar price range. The price was very reasonable. We arrived later than planned, but the friendly gentleman at the front desk made it easy and was very accommodating. Definitely worth checking out. :)
