Residence Inn By Marriott Detroit Sterling Heights

The pool was the reason I booked a one-night stay with points for my child’s 12th birthday. Before check-in and again when we arrived, the front desk asked if we were there for the pool. Once I said yes, they told me it was closed until further notice and suggested nearby hotels. The closure was clearly already known, but nobody told me ahead of time. I asked if they could offer anything, such as points or a reduced pet fee, since the pool was our main reason for staying. They refused, and the staff were rude and dismissive, with no attempt to help find a resolution. The suite itself was nice and spacious, but cleanliness was disappointing. The blinds were extremely dirty and visibly stained, and the walls had crust and what looked like dried boogers. That’s unacceptable in a newer hotel. It’s also concerning that the pool is already out of service so early in the hotel’s life. The stay fell far short of what I expected.

The location was good, and I appreciated that they allow dogs, assuming you like animals and aren’t allergic. The appliances in our room were fairly clean and looked new, but the rooms and bathrooms were gross, with hair everywhere and stuff on the walls. The shower leaked all over the bathroom floor, and it seemed like others had the same problem. We had to leave the pool because it was disgusting, with clumps of hair and rubbish like paper and candy wrappers floating in the water. Staff weren’t particularly rude, but they weren’t very helpful either. Maybe it was just a bad weekend, since I only stayed once, but based on the cleanliness alone, we won’t be back.

I travel often, and I’ve never had such attentive care and service. Suri & P Hirmiz made sure I was well looked after, and the location was ideal, close to plenty of good restaurants and shopping. The beds were top notch, as you’d expect from Marriott, and the breakfast had so many choices that it was a great start to the day. The place was super clean and looked brand new, with iceachines on every floor, a big plus. I’d definitely recommend this hotel for a Sterling Heights/Mccomb Cty stay. Thanks Marriott & S.H.R.I. I’ll be back!

The staff were lovely and welcoming, and everything else in the room was perfect. I did notice some hair on the bathroom floor, which made me wonder if there was hair in the carpet too, where I couldn’t see it. The environment was mostly clean. 9/10, definitely recommend.
