Ramada Sterling

We stayed on June 24, 2024, while heading home from California after an eight-hour drive. The reservation was already made for our overnight stop, so we made it work, but I’ve never been so disgusted by a hotel. The major reconstruction should have been disclosed on the website when we booked. The restaurant was completely gutted, so there was no breakfast available. The indoor pool had tarps and raw plywood around the edges. Some people let their kids swim, but I wouldn’t go near it. Our room had cut-up lampshades, strange bright red and blue carpet stains, and a toilet-paper holder coming out of the wall. The working hair dryer had burn marks that looked like it might have had an electrical short. The whole place smelled funky. The gym was just exercise equipment scattered chaotically in what used to be the restaurant. We paid the full price for amenities that weren’t there. It seemed like they should renovate a few rooms at a time and put guests in finished rooms, or at least ones neat enough to use. The bed was clean and comfortable, the room was quiet, and the air conditioner worked. It was just my husband and me, and we were exhausted, but this didn’t feel safe for kids or like a nice place to stay. Maybe it’ll be better after the renovations, but I personally won’t return. I’m generally not picky, and this was ridiculous.

The front desk staff were very nice, the beds and pillows were clean and comfortable, and the towels looked brand new. I also liked the Dove products at the sink. When we opened the first room, a swarm of moths flew at us and scared us badly. The desk attendant kindly moved us to another room facing the interior, since the rooms overlooking the sketchy parking lot made us nervous. I stayed here in 2017, when the property was run down but not too bad. Coming back in 2024 felt like something out of The Shining. Our room looked as if someone had started remodeling it and then quit. The place has potential, but making it habitable will take time and money. Read the reviews. The one- and two-star ones are all true.

The bathroom was the nicest part of the room, though the fan in the ceiling was thick with dust. The rest needed serious updating. There was a nasty musty smell, and the carpet had stains that could’ve been blood or wine. In spots, my feet stuck to it. The lampshades were old and filthy, and the electrical socket was loose in the wall and sparked when I plugged in my charger. Breakfast was supposed to be included, but the restaurant was closed. I’d use this hotel only as a last resort. Otherwise, I wouldn’t recommend it.

The desk clerk was the one bright spot. She was so sweet and easy to talk to, and I wish I’d thanked her more. I should’ve asked for a refund, but I was too exhausted to deal with it or take more pictures. I wouldn’t recommend staying here. There were beetles in the room, and I woke up with dead flies in the bed. It didn’t seem like housekeeping had done much cleaning; I even had to dust things myself. The connecting door, or whatever it was, had a gap underneath that let you see into the next room. Of our two queen beds, one was fine, but the other sagged badly in the middle and was really uncomfortable. I barely slept, and after traveling 750 miles, that was rough. I’m on disability, and the mattress made my chronic pain worse. The sink only had scalding hot water, no cold at all. We checked in late, then around 7 or 7:30, someone I assume was maintenance started working in the room next door. Hearing constant talking and power tools after a late arrival sucked. Even plugging in our phones was a pain because I had to maneuver the charger brick to make it fit.
