I stayed at the House Book House in spring and had a spectacular time. The room was large and fabulous, and the place had beautiful historic character, a luxurious feel, and wonderful energy. I heard it’s closed for enhancements, but I’ll definitely return after it reopens.

Orem, if I have the spelling right, is the general manager, but he seemed to do a bit of everything. He, Peter, yusef, and the rest of the staff gladly went out of their way to help us. We can’t wait to come back. Thank you for making our stay so great. We spent two nights there last week. The 1700s building is beautiful, with modern amenities that don’t take away from the historic details. Our well-appointed room was spacious, and the bed was so comfortable that I barely noticed my husband rolling over. The bathroom was stunning, especially the heated floors. The grounds were impeccably kept, and the pool looked gorgeous, though it was too cold for me to use it. We enjoyed both breakfast and dinner at the restaurant. The bar would be a mixologist’s dream, and I had the best Old Fashioned I’ve ever tasted.

The location is great, the room was very clean, and the bed was comfortable. This could become a wonderful luxury place to enjoy in the area, but our stay was okay at best. When we arrived, nobody was at the front desk, though we could hear several staff members chatting behind an employee-only door. We were told our booked room had been double-booked because of a system or software error, and were moved to another one. I wish they’d let us know before we arrived since the rooms aren’t identical and the change matters. The front desk employee simply told us about it without seeming bothered or apologetic. The room in the Stable House felt odd to me. It had a smaller bed than the one we’d booked, plus a lofted area that was awkward and not very usable. There was no offer to help with our luggage. With no elevator and short, narrow stairs, some help would’ve been nice. The walkways could also use more lighting at night, since there’s lots of vegetation and the paths are uneven.

The bar was fantastic, with amazing drinks, and my children had a great time in the game room. Our room was huge, with tons of space for two adults and three kids. It was very clean, the beds were comfortable, and the pillows and linens were excellent. The staff were lovely and accommodating. Breakfast was small but fresh. The coffee wasn’t the best, and I couldn’t work out how to use the in-room Nespresso.

The interior design gives Hasbrouck house its personality. The style is mismatched but somehow works together and feels cozy. There are three different houses on the property, and we stayed in the Carriage House. The rooms there were huge, and it’s right beside the main house. We also looked around the main house, where guests have a club room, a bar, and the restaurant, Butterfield, with great food. We enjoyed everything we ate at the restaurant, especially the chicken. The staff were friendly and worked hard to meet our needs. It was a great experience, and I’m planning to visit soon to see the fall foliage.
