We came for a February ski vacation and had a lovely, quaint stay in room 9 at the Butler House. It was a spacious downstairs room with good lighting and a small, handy kitchen. It faces Main Street, right across from Stowe’s beautiful white church. Our marked parking spot was safe and convenient. The location worked well between Stowe and Sugarbush Mountain ski resorts. People use the outside hallway to get to the restaurant out back in the late morning and early evening. It serves highly rated, delicious dinner and breakfast, and the foot traffic didn’t bother us.

The room was small but well equipped, and parking was free out back with your room name. My wife and I spent one night there in a beautiful, cozy room. There isn’t much to do beyond enjoying the town’s magic, especially around Christmas. We loved it and would return if we get the chance.

The Murphy Studio was set up like a house divided into rooms, a bit like an Airbnb. We stayed two days, and the mattress was awful. It actually gave me back pain. Quiet is not what to expect here: the restaurant downstairs was noisy from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m., with banging and kids screaming that made it impossible to sleep. On the plus side, the location is right in the heart of downtown Stowe, near all the stores and across from Starbucks and Black Cap Coffee. The owner seemed nice. We tried the restaurant for breakfast since guests get 20% off. The food was pretty good, and both my French toast and pancake were delicious. Service was excellent and quick.

We came from out of town hoping for a memorable breakfast with my nieces, but left very disappointed. We were seated at the bar and ordered eggs, bacon, and toast. After about 30 minutes, I asked the server where our meal was, thinking he’d checked. At around 45 minutes, it still hadn’t arrived, so I asked again. The bartender/server replied, “hey I guest I has no say around here.” We politely checked once more at the one-hour mark, and this time he basically ignored us. We eventually got up and left. I can’t recommend anything about this place and will never go back.

We stayed in the Murphy Studio for two nights on a fall road trip, and the space, parking, location, and breakfast downstairs at The Butler's Pantry all made us happy. Paul was kind when we spoke briefly, and he even helped put air in our bike tires. Thanks again, Paul! The Butler's House is a great choice for a visit to Stowe. We had considered staying farther out, but we’re still glad we booked right on Main St. It was the perfect location and a comfortable stay. I kept telling my sister I wished I could just move in, and I can’t wait to come back.
