Green Mountain Inn

Donna at the front desk made time for conversation, and after a while we felt more like family than strangers. The staff have always been helpful and welcoming, and Monique made booking this Thanksgiving visit easy. We’ve stayed at the Green Mountain Inn several times and continue to enjoy its warm hospitality and charm. Our classic room in the annex was clean, warm, and roomy, with two comfortable queen beds and a balcony overlooking the pool. The original flooring and decor in the original building add to the character. We had excellent service from Jane at the 18 Main St, and from Ruby and Chelsea at the Whip. The 18 Main St Dining Room does breakfast and afternoon tea with hot cider and cookies. The Whip Bar & Grill served very good meals at reasonable prices. We’ll definitely be back. 5 Stars.

The initial welcome at reception left me uncomfortable. I felt I was treated differently from the two guests before me, and couldn’t help wondering if I was being judged by my appearance instead of welcomed as a valued guest. First impressions matter, and this one was disappointing. Other staff members I encountered were friendly and professional, which I appreciated. The property felt old and dated, below the quality I expect as an avid traveler. The stay didn’t meet my expectations, and I don’t plan to return. I hope management takes this feedback seriously and makes sure every guest feels equally welcome.

The people here were so nice and welcoming, and our suite with a fireplace exceeded expectations. We visited during peak foliage season and enjoyed the year-round heated pool and hot tub, along with the fire pits. The downtown location makes this historical hotel feel like Vermont at its best. The bar and Grill served top-notch food at surprisingly reasonable prices, though service was slow on a packed Wednesday night. I’m sure we’ll come back.

The room was nice and everything else was great, but the reason we booked the suite was the jacuzzi tub. It was amazing until it broke and stopped draining. When we told the desk, they said maintenance would be notified in the morning. We explained we wanted to use it again before checking out that day, but they showed very little concern and said it would be fixed after we left. At $300+ a night, I expect top quality. I give the place four stars for being nice, but wouldn’t stay again or recommend it because they didn’t fix the tub while we were there.
