Holiday Music Motel

Such a cheerful, funky little place, and the hosts were lovely. The bed was extremely comfortable, and there's a great little coffee spot just down the road. I'd happily stay here again.

I like retro places, and the Holiday Music Hotel mostly worked for me. I'm an artist and photographer, and an amateur, wannabe blues musician, so the vibe scratches that itch. The inside and outside have genuine retro style, the rooms are clean, and the price is fair for what it is. It's near the old downtown, with shops and restaurants close by. Melanie, who I think is the owner or one of them, is friendly and helpful when she's at the front desk. It's a treasure, though a wonky one, and I hope it keeps going for years. There are a few things that held it back. The room I had on two separate stays was really old-school cool, but the long hallway outside had just one tacky, faded, low-end poster at the far end and otherwise bare walls. There was a slight old-rug smell in the hallway, like at your grandma's house, though the rooms themselves had no lingering odor. There was no breakfast or even snacks, which I haven't encountered at the many other places I've stayed in this price range. Melanie told us the HVAC wasn't working properly and they need a whole new system. The air conditioning was on, but for heat you had to use the baseboards. I managed, though others might not be able or willing to. I also feel businesses should be apolitical. There are two or three flags outside, an American flag, a Pride flag, and another one. That alone wouldn't stop me staying, and it's their right, but it doesn't sit quite right with me. So, for me, the pluses win, but it's not a knockout. I hope the owners can keep this piece of the past going.

Quirky, clean, comfy, and cool. Our small group loved hanging out in the lobby among the books, guitars, and old radios. We had a great stay and hope to come back soon.

We stay at this fantastic motel whenever we're in town visiting family. It's very clean and about as close to downtown as you can get.
