Clarion Pointe Sulphur - Lake Charles

The room had what we needed to get through two nights: a bed, shower, toilet, dresser, fridge, microwave, AC, TV, two chairs, coffee table, desk, Wi-Fi, and shelter from the weather. The bed, TV, and furniture were fine, if stuck in the 1990s. We had shampoo and conditioner but no bath gel. The wall under the toilet paper holder looked like someone had splashed feces there. The website photos were very misleading, and the breakfast pictures around the counter looked better than the actual food. My wife eats breakfast and I fast, but I picked this place because the site promised "EXCEPTIONAL BREAKFAST." She went to check it out and was exceptionally disappointed. I've stayed at Choice hotels a lot, and this was the worst choice I've made. Reviews said 3.5 stars, and I should have read more. I also work out, so I asked about the fitness room at check-in. Staff said they had to open it, which meant my key didn't work. Three hours later, I headed to the desk with my pre-workout and asked the unresponsive attendant to open it. I waited by the elevator for five minutes. The attendant came up and said the manager had the key, was bringing it, but was stuck in traffic. I went back to my room, waited 40 minutes, and called the desk. The attendant still didn't respond, so I asked them to call when the key arrived. In the end I went to a local Planet Fitness, where the customer service was great and it was a good place to work out. I slept badly and woke several times. Later, I heard our door opening and jumped up, thinking room service was about to tear the lock off. They brought towels and cleaned the mess off the wall. The desk attendants weren't helpful and seemed unconcerned. I put my head down in disgust every time we passed them. I would never choose another Clarion. Choice hotels are usually great, but this one was the exception. I would have left no stars, but the form wouldn't accept that.

My sister Keisha had booked a standard king for tonight, but when she arrived and went to her room, it had two queen beds. She went back to the desk to ask for the room she had paid for. The front desk girl, Zapa, insisted her computer showed two queens. Keisha showed her the confirmation, but her concerns were completely ignored. My sister has health issues and can't sleep in a queen bed, though she didn't want to make a fuss and let it go. I'll be calling the corporate office to file a formal complaint about Zapa.

There was mildew or mold on the ceiling and in the tub and shower. It looked like they tried to cover up an old hotel with paint and pictures. For the price, it wasn't horrible, but they could clean better and treat the ceiling.

I went through four different rooms, and every bathtub had water stains or mold. The rooms smelled like chemicals, too. I would have left if my rate hadn't been nonrefundable. DON'T STAY HERE!
