La Quinta Inn & Suites Summersville/New River National Park

Kacie at the front desk made a real difference. She was friendly, helpful, answered all our questions, and made sure we had what we needed. Most of the other employees we dealt with seemed rude and unwelcoming, which brought the stay down. Service could be more consistent. The hotel itself was fine. Our room was clean and fairly comfortable, and the location works well for a night or two or if you're passing through. The amenities were okay for the price, and it met the basic expectations, but nothing else really stood out.

The pool itself was nice, but there were no towels there during any of our three nights. On the last night we went to the desk for more, since we'd used ours at the pool. The blonde front desk clerk wearing a wrist brace couldn't be found for at least ten minutes. When she finally came out from the room behind the counter, she seemed annoyed about getting towels for us, and we got them after some attitude. We usually love La Quinta, and since it costs a bit more than many places, we expect a good room and service. This location was disappointing. The room swung between freezing and so hot we woke up sweaty, with no comfortable setting from the vents. Our sheets looked like they might have been left from the previous guests, unless housekeeping considers old, worn sheets acceptable. The housekeepers were rude, and the head of housekeeping was miserable. They slammed the room doors as they finished each one. Breakfast was very poor for what the nightly rate costs. We'd hoped for more effort with the so-called free meal. This is the first La Quinta we've stayed at that felt below par. They should address the sheets, staff, and breakfast.

We come here twice a year, and it would be nice if they replaced the old, frequently malfunctioning pancake machine with a new pancake or waffle maker by next year. Chilla, the breakfast attendant, was always helping guests and getting the machine working, on top of an already busy morning. She was kind, welcoming, patient, helpful, and polite. The hotel was clean and our stay was comfortable. For the price, La Quinta is okay. I'd rate the hotel 3 out of 5, and Chilla 5 out of 5.

Check-in and checkout were both easy, and the breakfast attendant greeted us and showed us how to use everything. Breakfast was good, and the room was clean and nice. It was easy to get to, too. I'm short, so getting up onto the bed was a struggle, though it was comfortable once I made it. The TV had an actual channel guide, so there was no need to hunt for a guide channel. We'll stay here again.
