Residence Inn by Marriott Charleston Summerville

Towels were sitting in the lobby when I arrived, and the bathroom in my room hadn't been cleaned. There was a massive mess in the toilet and hand towels left in the sink. I've never had this kind of problem at a marriott. The front desk woman was helpful when I told her, but still, I won't return.

The queen sofa bed suite had plenty of space and the stay was fine for one night with kids. Breakfast was free. But the room needs work: one light didn't work, the body wash container was empty, there was mold and a broken rack in the shower, and the carpet was torn up. It felt like nobody really cared. I'd give service 6/10 and housekeeping and maintenance 4/10.

The first hotel of this road trip has gone really well. Our one-bedroom corner suite was huge and spotless, and walking around nearby businesses, restaurants, and an ice cream shop was nice. While we were driving in, we got the room-ready notification. During a break I messaged to ask for the same type of room on the first floor, and they responded quickly with no problem. Julie at the front desk was friendly, helpful, and professional. Chaz from maintenance fixed our remote quickly and professionally. Thanks to both!

In room 415 from 1/22/26 to 1/26/26, my husband and I dealt with a terrible odor, possibly from previous pets. The sofa and ottoman were heavily soiled, so we covered them with spare bed sheets. We bought Febreze, but it didn't help as much as we hoped. The shower wasn't clean, and the king bed was uncomfortable, with one side sunken and poorly supportive. We didn't ask to move because we'd been upgraded for free to a much bigger room and wanted the space for our cat. We were with family during the day, so mostly had to deal with the smell when we came back in the evenings. We're Titanium members and have noticed Marriott properties going downhill, especially those that allow pets. This Nexton Residence Inn is overdue for renovation. There were carpet stains in the hallway near our room, and I don't understand why Marriott doesn't clean carpets between renovations. Very disappointed. We're considering switching to Hilton properties.
