Candlewood Suites Sumter by IHG

There weren't any napkins in the small coffee area, and getting coffee was awkward with my things because it was kept in a locked room. I was also surprised breakfast wasn't included. I hadn't thought to check, since breakfast has been included at other IHG places I've stayed, including Staybridge and Holiday Inn.

The staff were sweet and nice, and this isn't their fault, but I had a miserable stay. I was here on a military deployment and just wanted to rest after exhausting workdays. Instead, the whole building smelled bad, like a nursing home and expired food, and the inside felt muggy and almost like a sauna. The rugs felt grimy, too. My suite had black mold covering the bathroom walls and brown liquid splashed on the white bathroom door. I told the front desk, and they said someone would clean it the next day during the hours I gave them so I could be there. They came outside that window while I was away. I later saw that they'd painted over the mold and brown stains. I felt extremely violated and disrespected. I couldn't relax here. Don't stay unless you want to be miserable.

It smelled awful throughout the hotel, like animal urine and trash. The carpet smelled as if it had never been cleaned.

Kaitlynn at the front desk really set the tone for my stay. She was friendly, welcoming, and accommodating, and went out of her way to make check-in smooth and explain the hotel's amenities and services. Her customer service stood out, and she and the rest of the staff are real assets to the hotel. The location is great, with easy access to local attractions, restaurants, and shopping. The hotel was in impeccable condition, and my room was clean, well maintained, and nicely decorated. The bed was comfortable, the amenities were top-notch, and I appreciated the care taken with cleanliness and safety. From arrival to departure, my stay at Candlewood Suites was excellent. I'd highly recommend it to anyone looking for a comfortable, welcoming, well-located place, and I look forward to returning.
