The manager, I think, called after we mentioned the blanket and laughed it off as feathers, saying we should choose a featherless room. I'm no expert, so I'll leave it to the hotel and health inspection department to decide what it was. My toddler and I were itchy afterward, though it improved after a bath. On our first visit to Sumter, the downtown location felt bleak and we barely saw anyone despite it being a weekend. The hotel looks nice at first, but there was a dirty rag by the elevator. The sofa had stains, the ceiling had cracks, and the furnace room made an odd noise. Early in the morning, while it was still a little dark, I saw one side of the blanket and got scared by how it looked. We told someone at checkout. We travel a lot and haven't seen this in a room costing $200 for one night in a small town. Take the risk if you want.

Jason and Jasmine were outstanding, but the higher-level staff were unfriendly. During our eight-day stay, the blind in our room didn't work for four days, so we were stuck in a dark room. The toilet kept running the whole time, which was annoying. There was no microwave in the room, and guests had to use one in an office. It wasn't as clean as it should've been, and there wasn't a wet cloth to wipe down the area. Breakfast cost $8 per person, which felt overpriced. I've stayed in less nice hotels than Hyatt Place that offered free breakfast. The whole stay was too expensive, and I wouldn't book Hyatt Place Sumter SC again.

After a busy day, this was just the place our family needed to unwind. We enjoyed the pool, and the rooms were spacious and clean. It's right in the middle of town, with plenty of good dinner and drink options less than a 300ft walk away.

The front desk staff are always nice, and the lobby and room were clean. The bed was comfortable too, though the rooms could use updating. Being right in town made it easy to walk for food and shopping. Parking is in a garage about 50 steps from the hotel.
