Rays place Inn

We were here for hunting season, and Steve, Teresa, and the family were excellent hosts. They were courteous, took care of any requests, and the room was spacious and nicely decorated. The attached coffee and sandwich shop is great, they cook good meals, and there are a couple of food options across the street if you need them.

The western-style room was nice, but it gets dark at night, and there's no lighting for the shower, which is in the room along with the sink. Getting up to the second floor is quite a hike, and there's no elevator. We stayed in room one, one of the two rooms completed so far. It's a unique hotel connected with Ray's Coffee Shop. The rooms are in an adjacent building with Yoga, a Gym, and a car repair business below. We booked through hotels dot com and couldn't find a way to contact the manager or owner. We left early and put the key outside her son's door.

The advertised $104 room was adding up to $174 by checkout. While reserving through Expedia, a $40 "mandatory" charge appeared, then another $20 cleaning fee just before confirmation. And it looks like a tin barn. What a friggin' ripoff place!

If you’re a light sleeper, stay away. The walls on the freeway side are paper-thin, and every passing car woke my wife. Without white noise and the wall fan to cover it up, you're screwed. Stairs are another problem if you can't manage them. The bed, a double, has no support, and there are tripping hazards. The one good thing about the motel is the room: creative, fun, and clean. It's really an Air B&B.
