Holiday Inn Express & Suites Sweetwater by IHG

The day shift woman was really sweet, and breakfast was good. The bed was clean, and I checked the mattress cover and crevices to be sure. But one nice employee and a good breakfast don’t make up for much. The furniture was old, worn, and dirty. The night shift kid wasn’t great. My TV was stuck on one channel, and they said I could switch rooms, but they couldn’t find the maintenance man. Employees were standing outside the front door smoking. The shower head was covered in water scale, the couch was gross, and the hallways were gross.

There was no hot water. The front desk didn’t tell me before check-in, and when I spoke with the morning manager, she said they were having pressure issues. So cold water could run, but not hot? I showed her video of the flashing lights and room damage. She said they were going to be remodeling soon and asked if I was checking out. Yep. No apology, nothing. I wouldn’t stay here again. If I’d been told, I’d have gone to the next town. IHG do better. I’d booked the dbl KING suite, but the rooms were old. Turning on the light felt like the twilight zone, with the lights flashing. The dresser was broken, carpet worn out, and bathroom wall messed up.

The room smelled like smoke and was dirty, with trash in the can and a pillow that looked slept on. The bathroom light didn’t work. We asked for another room, which was a little better but still rough. Both the pool and workout center were closed, and breakfast wasn’t ready until 7. The eggs tasted straight from the refrigerator, and the biscuits were still doughy. This hotel wasn’t worth it. Holiday Inns have really gone downhill. ☹️

The staff are extremely friendly, and it’s sad they have to apologize for the place they work. The owner should be ashamed of himself. This hotel needs a different name, Motel 6 would be more accurate. I’ve been coming here for years, but since the new ownership over a year ago, it’s become disgusting. I left my luggage in the car after checking in, then went for appetizers and a couple drinks. When I got back and went to my room, I wished I’d skipped the cocktails. The smell and filthy carpet throughout the place were awful. Everything was closed or broken, and a cockroach met me in the bathroom for breakfast. The tub had a dark ring around it and spray drips that hadn’t been cleaned. They keep saying “Renovations... lol” I’ve been hearing that for over a year. It’s extremely sad to see a decent place get into this condition.
