Clarion Pointe Tallahassee-State Capitol

The rooms were clean, the bathroom was artistic and beautiful, and the AC worked great, getting the room really cold. I liked the fun decor throughout and the hallway aroma. Staff were nice and friendly. Check-in was easy, checkout super fast, and my deposit was back on my card the next business day. The parking was spacious, and people kept to themselves without loitering. Great spot on North Monroe, close to all the restaurants.

I've been a regular here for two years, averaging at least 50 nights each year, but the place has been going downhill. Housekeeping started taking the covers and towels out of my room without replacing them. I let it go. At checkout, I went to get my $100 deposit back. An employee checked the room for damage, which I understand, even though I'd never had an issue over all that time. They first accused me of having a missing rag, then found it on the bed. I felt offended. I was a regular customer, but no more.

The place was okay but not filthy overall. The beds were fine, and it was good value, which is why I'd give it a 7 on Expedia and 3.5 here, bumped to 4 for the price. Still, I'm not sure how it got an 8-9 rating there. The rooms were whimsical, but musty, with stained upholstery and carpet. There were hairs in the shower and a dirty patch of floor behind the bathroom door. It's between a thrift store and a boarded-up restaurant, although chain restaurants nearby are open. Turning left out of the parking lot is very hard, so turning right and making a U-turn is probably safer.

The desk clerk was pleasant, though incredibly slow. The room felt muggy and smelled bad, with old, dirty carpet and bizarre, almost creepy decor. The mattress was much too soft and really hot, and the polyester bedding was miserable in the heat. The AC kept cycling on and off. The TV only had cable, no streaming. Under the mattress pad was a huge brownish-reddish stain, about two feet across. I could hear TVs in other rooms and, to my astonishment, someone snoring a floor below me. With my nervous system, that was literally hell. I checked out at 11:30 and slept in my car. The 8.4 Expedia rating is what misled me into booking, so don't believe it.
