Residence Inn Tallahassee Universities at the Capitol

I left a toiletries bag with expensive medication in room 402 after my February 24-26 stay. Replacing it means seeing a specialist for new prescriptions and dealing with insurance claims that may be denied because of refill timing. I’ve spent days trying to get the bag back, but the explanations keep changing. I’ve spoken with several representatives, left voicemails that went unanswered, and still have no result. The housekeeping associate was rude. I left a generous tip, but I suspect my belongings were thrown away. As a lifetime Gold Elite Bonvoy member, this experience has made me less interested in pursuing Ambassador status and has me considering Hilton or another major chain. Marriott’s standards and customer service reputation have clearly declined. I certainly can’t recommend this hotel.

The rooms are very clean, the facilities are nice and new, and parking is free. Just ask for a room on the parking lot side, since people on the road side were revving motorcycles and expensive racing cars late at night. This was my second visit while seeing my daughter at FSU. Campus is nice to walk around, and there are good places to eat and a Publix a block away.

It’s easy to walk to restaurants and bars, and the rooms, check-in, and location were all great. Breakfast and happy hour are free, and there’s a small gym with Matrix machines. The downside is the $35 parking fee.

The location is better than most Tallahassee hotels, and I found the stay decent enough to book again in two weeks because rooms are hard to find during FSU game days. Those dates do come with a steep price jump: a room that would be $200 can cost $399. Breakfast was okay, though on Sunday it ended early at 10 AM. My room wasn’t very clean, especially the bathroom. Kara comped my parking, $35 plus tax per night, after I told her about it. Thanks, Kara.
