Wyndham Garden Tampa Fairgrounds/Casino

I was there for a weeklong work event, and the service was poor. My coworker’s shower was clogged and nobody fixed it. None of our TVs worked, and we were told that if we had a problem with that, we’d have to pay for a whole new room. There were little hairs all over my shower, and we got only two towels for the day even when we asked for more. They charged a $150 cleaning fee, which I thought was steep. They said it was refundable, but I kept the room clean and never got it back. Breakfast was presented as free, then we were charged for it, and my coworker who tried it found the food spoiled. One morning a girl charged me $2 for a Red Bull. The next day another person at the counter wanted $6 for an 8 Oz can. I’ll never stay here again. We were treated poorly, and the fact that it’s family run gives you an idea of the customer service.

The rooms were spacious, modern, and very clean, and the staff were kind and professional. I was pleasantly surprised by how nice the hotel was for a two-star rating. We were attending the RV show right across the street, so the location was really convenient. The rate was more reasonable than Holiday Inn Express and about the same as LaQuinta, which is really a 1-2 star hotel I’d never stay at again. I’d definitely stay here again.

For cleanliness, it was fine, but this hotel didn’t offer much beyond that. There’s no included breakfast, just a small paid cafe setup for morning coffee and danishes. The place is barebones and generic, nothing fancy, but not gross. The water pressure and temperature were inconsistent, so taking a shower was hit or miss. The gym equipment seemed cheap and untrustworthy. The treadmills sat flat on the floor and wobbled, and the elliptical and recumbent bike felt lightweight too. The pool didn’t look appealing, so I skipped it. I was looking for a clean, safe place for a business trip to Tampa, and the photos looked better than most places I considered. Since it had recently been remodeled, I expected it to be clean, and on arrival it seemed to meet that expectation.

Traveling with the family was easy here. The relaxed atmosphere worked for both adults and kids, and check-in and getting around the area were simple. The hotel felt comfortable and family-friendly, and it was very convenient for events at the Florida State Fairgrounds, close enough to make things stress-free without feeling crowded. The property is new and well maintained, with clean rooms and a modern feel throughout. We had a great experience and would stay again, especially for a fairground event.
