Ocean Oasis at Ocean Pointe

The rooms vary, but I've found them to be decent value on my several trips to town for diving. It's a convenient base for several dive ops, and having a restaurant and bar on site is handy. There does always seem to be construction going on somewhere on the property.

The room was fine, but the service left us frustrated, and we won't return or recommend the place. At check-in, the staff member at [92330 Overseas Hwy Suite 107, Tavernier, FL 33070] was rude. She kept her head down, made no eye contact, and gave no details when I asked questions, as if I were bothering her. The resort fee includes bottled water in the room, but there was none. It also covers access to a private beach where you can't swim because of the seaweed. A little after 11AM, we asked for trash bags and coffee refill packs and were told someone was coming, but nobody did. We called three more times, and after 7PM were told housekeeping had gone home and management would be notified. Terrible customer service. We paid good money for the full package and shouldn't have been treated this way.

The condo was roomy, and having a beach in the Keys is a real plus, though it was much smaller than the photos suggested. For over $400 a night, the property didn't feel up to its price. The place was worn, with siding torn off outside and unrepaired, and the bathrooms needed attention. A towel rack was hanging off the wall and floor tiles were loose. The condo and welcome center staff both seemed too busy to show guests much care. Calling customer service was frustrating: often nobody answered, and when someone did, an AI system struggled to understand me. At this price, I expect to reach a helpful, friendly person quickly. They sent automated texts asking if we needed anything, but nobody answered my request. I left Ocean Pointe Suites underwhelmed. The stay didn't live up to expectations for what we paid, so I'd give it 2 out of 5 stars.

The grounds are lovely, with a great pool, a sweet little beach, on-site dining, and security gates. I met lots of nice people from all over the country who have been coming for years, which says a lot of positive things about the place. The snack shack staff by the pool were friendly and helpful. The feral cats weren't a nuisance at all. They were quiet and mostly kept to one area. They also made me feel much more confident that I wouldn't have to share my accommodations with rodents, and I'm happy to share the grounds with those hard-working kitties. There are some practical shortcomings, though. The twin beds in one bedroom weren't ideal for two adult couples, and extra blankets and pillows should be standard instead of something I have to call about. The kitchen was missing things I'd expect in a condominium or hotel with a kitchenette or full kitchen. They normally supply just one garbage can liner and one dishwasher pod. With an oven, there should be an oven-safe pan and potholders. Guests shouldn't have to buy these things for a short stay. If I were staying a month, sure, I'd get my own. I also expect a spare roll of toilet paper under the sink so nobody has to call room service when the first roll runs out. The kitchen faucet had weak pressure and the water never got very hot, so we had to use the bathroom faucet a few times to fill a pot in time. The on-site restaurant wasn't great, and its staff weren't friendly or helpful. Still, having it there was very convenient, especially that first night when we were really hungry.
