29 West Motel

The room was small and dated, but it was kept up well, and whoever cleaned it did a great job working around our things. They even left the kids’ card game set up just as it was. We had a fridge and microwave, though there wasn’t breakfast. The staff were really nice and accommodating, and the location is central to just about everything. We’d gladly stay again when we’re in town.

We found a quiet room even though we hadn’t booked ahead. The owner was friendly, and when I called for extra towels, he brought them straight to us himself. We also got offered a senior discount at check-in, which was considerate, especially since we hadn’t asked. The mattress and bedding were new, and we had cable TV and free wifi. We were in town to visit family for a few days.

The staff were rude, and housekeeping opened our door at 9:45 in the morning without knocking, even though we’d paid for two nights. I held out my hand for the change, and she left it on the counter beside it. We moved rooms after the first one had no heat, a dirty fitted sheet and traces of BED BUGS in the mattress corners. The floors badly needed sweeping and mopping, and the sheets felt like cardboard. The beds were the hardest and crunchiest I’ve ever encountered, and the toilet paper was single ply. The second room had a heavy smoke smell. The homemade shower was weird and awkward, and seemed too small for anyone over 150 pounds or taller than four feet. I won’t pay a low-end motel for two nights in advance again. Next time, I’ll pay day by day.

The owner checked in by phone a few minutes after we got settled and said to call if we needed anything. He was really friendly. The room was dated, but clean and comfortable. The beds were firmer than I like, though plenty of people prefer a firm mattress. We were there for a family funeral and were very pleased with the stay. I’d definitely come back.
