Towneplace Suites By Marriott Tehachapi

A wonderful stay in Tehachapi. The staff were great, especially Faith, thank you. The hotel is very kid friendly, rooms are spacious, and the showers are large and comfortable. Breakfast was excellent. Parking was free, and it was easy to get on and off the freeway. We'd stay here again.

The staff were friendly, and the hotel itself is beautiful. I also appreciated the well stocked convenience store, especially the range of food for the in-room kitchens, including several vegetarian choices. The restaurant and bar downstairs seemed convenient, though I was there for work and exhausted, so I didn't get to visit either. Out front there are several electric vehicle charging stations, a practical extra you don't see at many hotels. Sleep was the main problem. Even on the top floor, I heard doors slamming, people talking in the hall, and noise at all hours. The walls and doors are so thin, with almost no soundproofing, that restful sleep was nearly impossible. The bed was extremely soft and sunken, with very little support. When I pulled back the comforter, the fitted sheet was heavily wrinkled and looked as if someone had already slept on it, which concerned me. The room layout was odd too. I don't know if all rooms are like this, but the bathroom door in mine swung out into the bed area. I had to keep it closed to move comfortably around the desk and kitchen. The toilet was clogged when I arrived. It looked clean at first, so I didn't realize until I'd settled in that it wouldn't flush at all. One other unsettling thing: the bathroom sink water first came out milky white. After a quick Google search and looking at photos, it seemed to be tiny air bubbles that eventually went away. I've stayed in many hotels for work and never seen that before. I had high hopes, but between the noise, uncomfortable bed, cleanliness concerns, and lack of rest, I'm not sure I'll come back. I will probably choose the Holiday Inn down the street next time.

My husband and I used to live here and were back for business, and we'd definitely stay again. Maybe the bad reviews come from picky people, because our stay was excellent. The rooms were extremely clean and the bed was comfortable. Staff were very kind, and the property felt modern. There was a firepit and barbecues out front for guests, plus a cafe by the lobby. At check-in they had fresh cookies and water, and there was a small area to buy snacks and adult beverages if you wanted. The hospital, gas station, post office, and Starbucks were within walking distance, and town was a short drive away.

The room looked dingy, not fresh, and room service never came when we asked for more coffee and washcloths, so I had to go to the service desk for supplies. The indoor pool was closed for repair, and the power went out. Through all of those issues, the hotel's manager was extremely helpful with our requests and concerns, which took some stress out of an already high stress visit.
