Residence Inn Tempe Downtown/University

Our team had a great time here, and we’re grateful for all the staff’s help. The breakfast was so good, and the hotel was beautiful, with a rooftop pool, fire pit, and amazing views. The rooms have a kitchen area with a dishwasher and full-sized refrigerator. As college athletes, we’ve stayed at a lot of hotels, and this one was the best by far. We had to leave the La Quinta down the road because it was horrendous. From the moment we walked into the Residence Inn, the workers were unbelievably kind and welcoming.

I stayed about 90 nights, from November to February, at Residence Inn Tempe Downtown/University while displaced from home by an insurance loss. The rooms and location were solid, but the billing and communication problems were serious. I disputed roughly $650 or more and am still waiting for itemized records, written explanations, and a resolution. There were parking charges for two vehicles when only one, or sometimes none, were present, along with more than $100 in market food and beverage charges I didn’t make. When I asked for the complete folio and supporting documents, the Assistant to the General Manager called them confidential and said they weren’t authorized to provide the full folio to the registered guest because a third-party housing contractor paid for the stay. I found out from my insurance housing provider, not hotel staff, that the stay wouldn’t be extended because of an “investigation.” Nobody at the hotel told me directly, involved me in the process, or gave me paperwork explaining the decision. I was just told to get out. Being displaced from my home already made things hard, and this made it much more stressful. If you stay here, check your folio closely, question unexpected charges right away, and get everything in writing, especially for an insurance-related stay. I hope management and Marriott corporate address their mistakes promptly.

The washing machines and dryers were cleaned every day, which I loved since that’s rare. The staff were very professional, too. Thank you to the hotel manager. If I come back to Tempe, I’ll definitely stay here again.

Candice and Jamaciana deserve a special thank you for consistently taking care of everything we needed. The staff went above and beyond with every request. The hotel was clean and comfortable, and both its location and proximity to the city center were great. It’s convenient for ASU and getting downtown. I’d definitely return if I’m back in the area.
