The breakfast was mostly cold cereal and fruit that seemed a day old, and there was no caffeinated coffee on our last morning even though we asked. We stayed Thursday through Tuesday, and there was no offer of fresh towels or daily room cleaning. We reused the large towels, and I didn’t even sleep in the bed, I used my own blanket on top of it. Before leaving, we put the towels on the bathroom floor and left all the rubbish in tied bags there. Six family members saw the rooms the night before checkout and can confirm how they looked. Three days after checkout, we were told we had ruined six sets of towels, billed at $37.62 each, and that the rooms needed extra cleaning. We’re now being charged more than $200 on top of that. I found the message really upsetting. We thought we’d found our dream place at first, but this was a first for me after staying in many places over the years. Timothy Weaver said he’d be “hesitant” to rent to us again, but he doesn’t need to worry. We won’t return, and neither will the other Weavers we showed the rooms to. Supposedly he’s family, the Weaver family, but only in name as far as I’m concerned. Weavers aren’t dishonest or disrespectful. Be careful, you could get extra charges too.

The rooms were spotless, comfortable, and furnished with antiques. I also liked the toiletries and the sitting area, where there was a TV and tea and coffee. Breakfast was cereal, muffins or bagels, juice, and coffee or tea. The Google exterior photos don’t capture how lovely this historic bed and breakfast is. The owners are so welcoming, and their investment in bringing Rowlesburg back to life is easy to see. Check out the history museum and shops, and the new wine bar and patio, which are open Fri - Sun. Stop here and they’ll look after you!

This charming bed and breakfast is right in the heart of the Cheat Valley, in a small community. It’s a handy base whether you hike, paddle, camp, or are just passing through. I slept well here, and they provided a shuttle so I could hike parts of the Allegheny Trail-West Virginia's Longest Hiking Trail.

We booked the campsite and caboose for my daughter’s 4th birthday over Memorial Day weekend. The spot is lovely and handy, right on the river, with clean, well-kept campsites. The bathhouse and lounge were just as tidy, the cleanest public place I’ve ever showered or used the bathroom in. There are electric hookups, and solar lights around the camp. You can walk or bike to a great park, an adult watering hole, and a convenience store, and drive to other local spots like Thomas/Davis. The owners know the surrounding area well and are really helpful. They also rent rafts and kayaks. While you’re in town, check out the WW2 MUSEUM and enjoy the beauty and welcoming feel of this little town. Highly recommend!!!!!

Tim, the host and owner, went above and beyond for me after a storm caught me on the Allegheny Trail. I was soaked and freezing in a remote spot and didn’t know what to do. My boyfriend reached Tim through the ALT website, and at 8:30 PM Tim drove about 30 minutes each way to get me. He gave me a place to stay that night and let me hang out until the next afternoon, when someone could pick me up and take me back to the trail. I don’t know how my night would have turned out without his kindness and help. The building is gorgeous, the bed was really comfortable, and breakfast was great. I’d highly recommend River House if you’re nearby, or if you want a little country escape. Great place!
