Wyndham Garden Texarkana

The room was very clean, and being dog friendly at this price wouldn't be enough to put me off. The problems were nuisances, and I think it could become a five-star hotel once the owner paints, fixes the rusted fixtures, and repairs the parking lot. The building is old and doesn't look well maintained. The lot is a little rough, though that wasn't a big deal. You could tell the room had been painted, and there was paint all over the floor. The bathroom fixtures were rusted, and the worst faucet in the sink shot out a jet stream when I turned on the water to take a bath. The location is great, right off the highway. Breakfast was one of the better hotel breakfasts, with plenty of room to eat, and the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. My reservation had been messed up, but the kind woman at the desk made it right.

I booked online because the price was low, and I should have taken that as a red flag. The lobby seemed decent, but after a quick trip to get food, we got back to the room and saw what it was like. The parking lot was extremely trashed. In the elevator, the rail was lying on the floor, with trash on the floor and dirty walls. The floors in the room hadn't been swept, mopped or vacuumed. The sheets were stained and the bottom one had little holes. The tub had black hair everywhere and blue stains that wiped right off when I tried to clean the shower, so it clearly hadn't been wiped down. There was nice furniture, but the walls were chipped with missing paint, the tabletop was cracked, and there were no screens in the shower or sink. This is a Wyndam hotel, and I don't need fancy, but I do expect clean and well kept. I'll contact corporate because this is way below par for any hotel in the chain. There's a red line in the lot marking fire truck parking, but the asphalt is uneven and the line is hard to see at night. I almost rolled my ankle. Skip it. I think a motel 6 would have been cleaner.

The room was fine and breakfast was really good. The halls needed a proper cleaning, and the elevators were painfully slow. Our first room had the lock on, so we couldn't get in, but the staff dealt with it very quickly.

Breakfast was limited, and the tables weren't clean. I wouldn't recommend staying here. The entrance gives an unwelcoming first impression, and the elevators take an unusually long time. The carpets looked like they needed cleaning, too. Our room had a strong, unpleasant odor. The air conditioner was noisy, but turning it off made the smell worse. The bed sheets were unpleasant as well, and I couldn't tell when they'd last been changed.
