Hyatt Centric The Woodlands

The room didn't seem to have been inspected properly before I arrived. A blanket from the closet had a visible stain, which made me question how clean the room was. Valet service was also frustrating, with significant delays both dropping off and retrieving the car. The stay at the Hyatt at The Woodlands fell short from check-in, where the front desk staff were rude and unwelcoming. I felt rushed and dismissed instead of valued. The experience didn't meet the standards I associate with the Hyatt brand. I'd need to see better staff training, faster valet service, and more thorough housekeeping before I'd consider returning.

The decor in the room was very nice, and the hotel is in a great location with upscale feel and great service. But I had one of the worst nights of sleep in a long time. The bed was rock hard, and every pillow was feather-filled. They gradually shifted around my head, leaving it unsupported, and I woke with major neck pain after barely sleeping. Parking was a major hassle. We had to haul all our things from the highest level of the general Market Street parking garage because there is no dedicated hotel parking. Advertising free parking felt misleading when it really means parking is available only if you find a spot. Check-in staff said breakfast was 6-11, which led us to think it was included, but it wasn't. For all the looks, the room wasn't comfortable.

We booked this as our 39th anniversary stay and mentioned the occasion, but no one acknowledged it at check-in or checkout. That stood out after Mastro's Ocean dinner, where they printed special menus and called before and after the reservation to wish us a great celebration. Thanks, Hyatt, for doing absolutely nothing to make the stay special. The trainee at check-in was fine, but on a fairly quiet night we asked for a room away from the elevator and vending area. We got one just off the elevator and next to the ice machine, with a view of a parking lot and a big glowing "H-E-B" sign. Those oversights might be forgivable on their own.

The rooms were clean, spacious, and well cared for, and the staff were genuinely wonderful. But after spending more than $3,500, I was surprised that breakfast wasn't included at all. The cheapest option was a small egg with toast for over $20. I ran into other charges for things I thought would be part of a hotel at this price, with markups of 200% or more. It felt greedy, and I decided I wouldn't stay at Hyatt or its affiliates again. The next day, after I'd spent all day in the ICU, I returned around 8 p.m. and was told to leave. A woman who said she was the operations manager claimed there was paraphernalia in my room. I asked to see what she meant, but she showed me no proof and still told me to go. The timing, one day after my negative review, seemed very strange. I have a rapidly degenerative medical condition that is taking away my ability to walk and will eventually affect my arms and lungs. At that point I could barely crawl across a room, and it was extremely painful. I had unpacked music equipment and clothes for a planned 12-day stay, so packing it all up took four hours of crawling around in pain. By 10:30 p.m. I had to crawl down three floors and across the concrete parking lot on my hands and knees. Guests coming in laughed at me, and none of the staff offered help. They gave me no refund. After all that, they even tried to charge my card for a bottle of water I'd drunk. The way I was treated was absurd, inhuman, and just wrong. I'll be contacting local news stations to try to get the story covered.
