Country Club Motel

We only made it through Sunday night. We had booked a deluxe queen room for two nights and arrived on June 30th 2024, but left early Monday because the beds hurt our backs so badly. We were supposed to stay Monday night too. Never again. Very disappointed. The room was filthy and badly needed cleaning. Something in the next room, maybe a furnace or hot water tank, made noise all night. The beds and pillows were so uncomfortable we'd have slept better in the car. Half the outlets didn't work, so we had to move the microwave to another plug, and the coffee pot had to be plugged in in the bathroom. It was dirty, too. Who wants to make coffee in the bathroom? The sliding glass door was filthy and hard to open. The only good thing was the fridge. This place needs a serious update.

We slept there one night and left as soon as we could the next morning. Thank God we brought our own pillows and blankets. The location was great, but don't be fooled by the online pictures. We got the Deluxe Queen, and what a joke. I wonder what the other rooms look like. The window wouldn't open because its crank was broken, and the old sliding glass door was so cloudy we couldn't see through it. There were no pictures on the walls, just screws where they used to be. The towels were old, the room dusty, and there were lots of hooks on the mirror for some reason. To open the curtains, we had to take the hooks off the rod and put them back each time. There's nowhere to get ice, either. For a Deluxe room, I feel like we definitely got ripped off.

The location was perfect, the AC worked well, and the people were really nice and helped us whenever we needed them. The motel has great potential, but seems like it needs some updating. Our TV gave us trouble every day, so we had to get someone each time. It had stopped working by the time we left. One of the girls said they'd changed to Spectrum, so it might have been a Spectrum issue. The pool wasn't heated, though I don't know if there was something we were supposed to do. On arrival, we found squished dead bugs on the wall and stains on the comforter. It looked like it had been washed, but the stains were still there. I was excited to make my own coffee, then found the inside of the coffee maker was dirty. The beds weren't very comfortable, but they did the job.

The proprietor was friendly and courteous, and the place was quiet. The location wasn't bad if you're fine being right in Old Forge, though this is Thendara. My main reasons for giving it two stars are what I paid and the condition of the pool. I booked through booking.com thinking I was getting a deal, but paid over $280, including a discount, for two nights, Sunday and Monday. I hadn't properly checked prices and locations first, partly because my symptomatic brain tumor has affected my cognition and reasoning. Since getting sick, I sometimes forget to do what I need to avoid being ripped off or taken advantage of. I normally wouldn't have booked without checking, and I definitely feel ripped off this time. The room was basic, with a small TV, microwave, and mini fridge. It was clean, though the grout around the tub was reddish brown and the sink drained slowly. I chose this place for the pool, advertised as heated, but my guests and I couldn't get it heated, and the water was cloudy and dirty, so we couldn't swim. The local water park closes so early that we would have preferred to pay a little more for a better option, at least one with a pool we could use. Maybe this really is the cheapest around, but I wouldn't have chosen it over the many others if I'd known about it beforehand.
