Residence Inn By Marriott Los Angeles Westlake Vil

The bed was comfortable, the pillows were amazing, and the stay was quiet. The rest of the staff were nice, too. We liked having a real fridge and an ice machine in the freezer. We did end up sitting on the ground for a smoke and our morning coffee, but at least nobody hassled us. We booked after being told smoking was allowed outdoors as long as we stayed away from entrances. At the hotel, the desk told us the only designated spot was by the basketball courts, and that we’d have to walk off site to smoke. We couldn’t smoke by the pool either. That wasn’t what we were told, and the nighttime desk clerk was a bit snotty. We later saw butt catchers around the outer ring, about 20 feet from the doors, so it seems those areas are allowed too. There just isn’t a comfortable spot to sit, unless you count two lawn chairs tucked in the dog walking area. We asked for another chair for our room. They said they’d send one up if they had one, but it never arrived and nobody followed up. The smoking setup made us feel unwelcome because of our habit. Maybe a gazebo in the pool area with smoking signs and ashtrays would give people somewhere to relax with a morning coffee. I doubt we’ll find anything better in Cali, but I wanted the hotel to know how it could improve the stay to five stars.

We’ve been working from the hotel throughout our move and haven’t had any issues, which has made these 13 days between houses much easier. The suite has everything we need for a comfortable longer stay, and the bed is incredibly comfortable. The pool has been a nice place to unwind between busy days. Breakfast has plenty to choose from, and I especially like the crustless quiche and cold brew coffee. Every team member we’ve dealt with has been friendly, accommodating, and eager to help. We feel very well looked after at the Residence Inn Marriott in Westlake Village. It really has felt like a home away from home.

We got back from an event at 10pm and started settling in. It had been 80° during the day and 64° that night, with our thermostat set to 69°. Then a loud noise, like someone’s NASCAR idling outside, filled the room. The front desk sent up maintenance. He was a little rude when he came in and said it was our air conditioner. When I asked how we were supposed to sleep with that noise, he asked if we wanted it off. Of course we did, but we wanted to control the temperature too. He went to the thermostat and shut off the AC. We’d checked in around 3:30pm and left for the event a little after 5pm, so we hadn’t noticed the problem earlier. It made for a VERY uncomfortable night. If you stay here, make sure they don’t put you in room #242.

The staff made the stay enjoyable. When the AC issue in our room couldn’t be fixed, they quickly and kindly helped us move to another room nearby, so switching was easy. Breakfast was standard, but filling. The pool was nice, though the jacuzzi looked a little green. We mentioned it and staff came right out to clean and fix it. By the next day it was better. Hotels aren’t perfect, but the team here was amazing.
