Holiday Inn Express & Suites Three Rivers by IHG

The staff were kind, friendly, and responsive, and the hotel stayed clean despite guests tracking in so much snow and salt. The pool was nice, and the location worked well for us. But there were several problems: our bathroom had no bath towels, there were no towels at the pool, the first-floor ice machine and pancake dispenser were out of order, and the bathroom caulking looked like I'd done it myself, not well. The first-floor foundation is uneven, so the pool and outside doors catch on the floor before they can fully open.

Access to restaurants and grocery stores was really convenient, and the hotel is set back from the highway, so there wasn't traffic noise. I didn't try breakfast because I was on a pretty late schedule, though the dining area looked nice. The standout for me was how bright the room was. It also seemed well insulated against sound, and even though I forgot to ask for a room away from the elevator, I never heard it. The outlets and USB outlets worked well too. Hotel outlets are often loose and worn out, and I've even started bringing tape to charge my phone, so it was nice not to have that problem here. The place was sparkling clean, and every staff member was helpful. I've found Holiday Inn group hotels clean and their staff helpful before, and this one was no exception. I hope the group keeps doing well. It's nice to have clean, easy places to stay with professional staff. Thank you!

On February 25th, I came to visit my daughter and asked about availability. They quoted $269 a night. I checked that this was Three Rivers, Michigan, and the person said yes. I pointed out that two hotels within walking distance charge $79-89 a night, so this was three times their rates for a Wednesday in a town with no buildings taller than three stories. The location didn't justify what seemed like a basic hotel's weekend convention price. I'm a retired law enforcement officer from NY, and Holiday inn Express hotels in NY aren't price gauging people like this. Please look for somewhere comparable to the services you want instead of falling for this kind of grifting. I won't consider this business again, and I'll tell people I know to avoid it.

The front desk person was the one bright spot: after a long day's work in shipshewana, they greeted us with a smile. The room was quiet, and the location is fairly close to shipshewana, which made the other problems all the more unfortunate. There was mold and mildew in the room, the tub was so slick it felt dangerous, especially for those of us with a handicap, and we had to get the toilet seat fixed. The second-floor ice machine didn't work either. Handicap parking was limited and not very close to the entrance, and the doors had no handicap access, making it difficult to bring a luggage cart inside. Everyone else seemed to hate being there. We travel a lot for business and don't normally review hotels, but this was the worst Holiday Inn Express we've stayed at. We won't be back.
