Howard Johnson by Wyndham Valdosta

We stayed two nights at this nice little motel and had no problems. It was quiet and private. I’m not keen on the $10 pet fee as a service dog handler, though I understand why they charge it. We’d definitely stay again.

When I entered my room in January 2019, it smelled strongly of smoke. I took the heater filters out, as shown in my pictures. One photo shows the filter after I cleaned it next to the other dirty one. I showed the person at the desk in the morning, but he didn’t seem concerned or interested. The bed was badly worn, and the linens were old. The free breakfast was a basic continental breakfast and not very good. Rooms shouldn’t be rented in this condition under a national name like Howard Johnson. Spend a few dollars more and stay somewhere else.

For $36 a night, this was better than I expected and fine for a night or maybe two. The hotel is bigger and better located than I thought, right by the interstate, with two gas stations and two fast-food places close by. The rate was reasonable and the bed was comfortable, though the room looked dated. There were some cosmetic problems: the bathroom door looked as if it had been kicked in and repaired, the latch was missing so it wouldn’t stay shut, the bathroom light was taped together, and the tub drained slowly. Check-in and checkout were both quick, but I had to ask for a receipt instead of being offered one. Free breakfast was advertised on the billboards and in the lobby, but I didn’t try it.

My family and I arrived on June 1 and asked for a microwave and fridge. We couldn’t use the microwave for the first two days, so I went to the office to report it. They brought us a replacement and even took some money off the bill. Housekeeping was great too, and brought extra towels and toilet paper when we asked.
