Econo Lodge Topeka At Wanamaker

I'm very unsatisfied. The owner's wife yelled at me one morning because I hadn't flipped my waffle while the alarm sounded. There was no syrup out, so I was taking the lid off and dipping a cup in to get some. Breakfast was awful, and they didn't clean the utensils they served it with. The floors were so dirty they stuck to my shoes, and the hot tub didn't work even though the website says it does. The owner was rude and disrespectful, and I found what looked like drugs stuck on the nightstand. The AC filter was so dirty the unit stopped working overnight. I have pictures of those things and of the breakfast utensils.

We arrived at 5:30 with a hungry baby, lots of baby gear, and our own bags. After carrying everything up to the second floor, I sat on the bed and checked the room before feeding the baby. There was no elevator, which seems common around here, so that part didn't bother me too much. The receptionist was kind, and I know the 10 minute refund policy wasn't his fault, but with the stairs it took me that long just to get our things into the room. They wouldn't refund me so I could move to another hotel. The room looked nothing like the picture. Paint was chipped everywhere; the sheets, pillowcases, and shower curtains were stained; the carpet was ripped; and there was a small hole in the wall by the door. A glob of plaster and a nail were sticking out of separate parts of the ceiling, and there were thumbtacks in the walls. Even the toilet paper was dirty. I get that guests don't always leave rooms clean, but making sure the next guest gets a clean room is the hotel's job. If it had only been the chipped paint, I could have dealt with it, but the whole place felt dirty. Please clean the linens better and check the room before letting anyone stay.

We definitely won't stay here again. The rooms were disgusting, and water bubbling up meant we couldn't shower. The kitchen was gross, so we couldn't eat there either. Oil field workers were drinking in the parking lot all night, which wasn't a good experience with our young children.

The reviews had me worried, so I brought cleaning supplies and room spray, lol. I was relieved that the room didn't smell of smoke or pot. It was quiet and clean, and the bed was comfortable. There are several places to choose from nearby, but I'd stay here again if work kept me in the snow or I had back to back shifts.
