Motel 6 Topeka West

The beds were awful, with hairs and strange stains on them, and the shower was filthy. The toilet wouldn’t flush, and even the non-smoking room had burn marks on the floor. When we asked for clean sheets, the woman at the desk said we were lucky she’d found any, then told us to put them on ourselves. The two women we spoke with gave us nothing but attitude, and I felt like we were treated as criminals. I also saw prostitutes being dropped off. I don’t expect much, but this was way below standard and the worst hotel stay I’ve ever had.

It was an easy, friendly check-in and a good value for the money. We only stayed one night while traveling, and everything we asked for was there and worked properly. The room was clean, the beds were a little hard but not terrible, and the A/C worked well without being noisy.

The customer service was great, and the manager was kind enough to give us a voucher for a free night at any motel 6 in America. Our stay was pretty good otherwise, though we were on the third floor with an ancient box-screen TV. As we were leaving, the door malfunctioned and wouldn’t open with either our card or the master key, so they had to kick it down.

The fridge freezer had an old ice pack from a previous guest that was dirty and clearly well used. Disgusting to find while cleaning out the fridge at checkout. The room also had dirty carpet, a poorly cleaned bathroom, and holes in the sheets on both beds. We made do for one night while passing through. A sheriff was visiting a guest on the floor below when we arrived, which made us uneasy about safety. The motel is only about 100 feet from a busy road, so there was a lot of traffic noise.
