Red Sands Hotel

We loved our stay and thought it was a great value for everything on offer. The common pool area had the prettiest pool view I’ve ever seen. They also held a star program in the backyard. The knowledgeable presenter used a laser to point out the basic star formations, and we even saw a string of Starlink satellites. The restaurant was okay, with a breakfast special available to guests. We wanted to use the spa services, but spent a bit too long at Capital Reef.

The hotel was average in other ways, and the staff all seemed bewildered. We booked one night at Red Sands as part of a 12 day holiday in the US and arrived about half an hour before check-in. The receptionist didn’t greet us, just stared in silence. I said we were early and happy to wait if the room wasn’t ready. She stayed silent, then called a colleague. After that, she abruptly told us to fill out a catalogue of questions on forms we’d already answered when booking online. As we struggled with the chip and pin process, she rolled her eyes. Customer service at its worst, rude, arrogant, and unwelcoming. The woman had long dark hair, no name badge, and a really bad attitude. Avoid if you don’t want to be treated like something the cat dragged in!

Beautiful, clean rooms with great views, a pool, and a hot tub overlooking the mountains. The hotel is perfectly located for a visit to Capital Reef National Park, and the restaurant served good food. We appreciated having coin operated laundry machines, as well as free hot chocolate, coffee, and apples. The Stevia sweetener was a small detail we liked. The rooms weren’t too expensive, and we had a very pleasant stay. We’ll definitely be back with the family. The only downside was our patio. People in the room above us were noisy and stomped around all night.

The rooms were very clean and updated, the price was reasonable, and the staff were friendly and helpful. We had a delicious meal at the hotel restaurant, and I highly recommend the Quinoa bowl. We hadn’t planned to stay in Torrey or visit Capital Reef National Park. But after driving through town and turning around at the far side, the snow picked up so heavily that we couldn’t see 10 feet ahead. We got a room at Red Sands, which has a bar and a pool. Within half an hour of checking in, the snow mostly stopped, though it was still coming down hard on the mountain. We changed our plans because of the weather, and were glad we did. Capital Reef Park looked beautiful with the fresh snow.
