Grandma's Inn

The manager and owner were both very nice, and I think they're trying to make needed improvements. Our room was large and had a kitchenette, the bed was comfortable, the water was hot, and pets are allowed. One problem was the very low water pressure at the kitchenette sink. Also, some people staying there for a long time let their dog roam unattended. It growled at me when I went out to smoke and chased my very small shorkies. I enjoyed the stay overall.

I was in Torrington to visit my birth father for eight days, but I ended up finding another hotel with a vacancy. When I arrived to check in, the office door was locked, so I called the number posted there. The woman said I'd cancelled my reservation the day before, which I hadn't. I explained I'd been driving for two straight days and hadn't called or cancelled, and that I was exhausted in the 100-degree heat and just wanted to rest and shower. She said she'd look into it, then hung up and never called back. I would never recommend this place.

I thought this would be a cute little local motel, but the inside was pretty rough. A mouse ran across the bed beside me. I called the manager, who apologized but didn't offer another room. I was exhausted, so I said I'd stay. About an hour later, another mouse ran over me under the covers, and I decided the car was a better place to sleep. When I called the manager again, she laughed and said she'd refund me. It's been more than a month and I still haven't received it.

Our two-night stay turned out awful, and since we'd prepaid, we stayed the second night anyway. The heavy air freshener was covering a urine smell. The chair was broken, the tub dripped, the bed was worn, and there was no hot water, phone, or clock. At check-in, the hours were listed as 2 to 5, but when we arrived at 3 nobody was there. A rude, annoyed woman said she had to come back into town to clean the room, so we waited an hour. Then she said she couldn't find my reservation, even though I'd prepaid a week earlier, and said Expedia had only sent it that day. I never saw anyone in the office again. Next time I'll pay extra to stay somewhere else.
