Townsend Gateway Inn

We could walk to restaurants and had a great weekend here. The welcome was friendly, and we got a goodie bag. The rooms were very nice and clean. It’s a very nice hotel in a great Townsend location, and we’ll definitely come back.

It’s a mix of vintage and modern, and the rooms felt updated and clean. The website photos give an accurate idea of what to expect. Staff were friendlier than average, and a real person called to confirm our reservation. My husband and toddler loved the goodie bags we got on arrival. I would’ve enjoyed one too, but they didn’t share. Our shower was set low, but it had a removable head that could be lifted for people of average or taller height. The mattress depends on your preference. I’d rate it 6 out of 10, though my husband slept great. He also appreciated the generous amount of in-room coffee, but says the small cups overflow when the machine is brewing. It was convenient to park right outside our door for loading and unloading. My mom and her friend were in a separate room, and they appreciated that staff adjusted the temperature for them late at night. Some rooms have no-step access from the parking area, while others have maybe 2-3 steps, with a ramp farther away. Some rooms are directly across from the outdoor pool. If you have a preference, discuss it with the staff when booking. The lot was a little tight, so I’d also check whether they can accommodate an oversized vehicle. I’d change the bedspread to a fluffier one, and replace the wooden bathroom towel rack with something that won’t mold and can be cleaned. The driveway entrance was hard to see at night too.

The room was very good, with a bit of an old-school, retro motel feel. We were here for three days for the Smoky Mountain Bigfoot Festival, and the location was great. My only complaint was the AC. It was noisy and wouldn’t cool below 70 degrees, even with the remote set to 68. It wasn’t hot outside, but that limit could be a problem in hotter weather. Luckily, we had a small fan, which helped. I’d stay here again, but bring a fan.

The area was perfect for visiting, with routes in every direction, and the staff were very friendly. We enjoyed our stay at Townsend Gateway inn and will definitely be back. Thank you!
