Sonesta Simply Suites Detroit Troy

The room was nice and the price was good, but we got no sleep because of the noise from the room above us. I assume kids were dancing or playing up there, yelling, jumping, and pounding from 10:30 pm until 2 am. I called the service desk twice to ask them to check, but at 11 and again at 11:30 the attendant said, “I am so busy,” and didn’t do it. We considered changing rooms, but at 1 am we were due to leave at 10 the next morning. I can only guess the attendant was too timid to confront them, or that they were extended-stay tenants and were being favored over us. A very disappointing stay.

The front desk clerk and manager were both so caring and supportive, especially during a very personal time for me. I’m grateful for their kindness and for having a clean, safe, friendly place to rest.

Quiet and affordable, and the bed was comfortable. The shower pressure was fantastic, too. My room had a fridge, stove, microwave, dishwasher, and cabinets with a few bowls and plates. It’s pretty no-frills, though the gym and the on-site laundry share a space and are decent. The decor is low-key, but it does the job if you just need a place to sleep.

The free WiFi only worked in the morning, and staff wouldn’t let a paying guest use the lobby restroom. I explained that someone else in my room was unwell and would be in the bathroom for a while. She still refused, even though the restroom was less than 10 feet from the desk. The previous night, police came looking for someone and stopped me in the parking lot. I offered to go inside with them so they could check the reservations and confirm I was a guest. Instead, they repeatedly asked whether I was staying there, my room number, and my first and last name. They eventually left me alone, then drove around and parked right behind my car to run my plate.
