Tucson and the Arizona Inn have become a comforting escape from Pacific Northwest winters for us. We only wish we’d found the place sooner. Set in a quiet Tucson neighborhood, the inn captures the character of the old Southwest that drew artists and intellectuals. Its architecture, landscaping, and secure grounds are lovely, and the private rooms, many with their own patios, make for a peaceful stay. The staff are kind, capable, and responsive. We enjoyed delicious meals and fine wine in the restaurants, and the library is stocked with history and literature. Tea is served there every day with scones and other treats. Tucson itself has more to offer than you might expect, including a wonderful art museum, shops, and bookstores.

There’s plenty of room to sit outside and enjoy the quiet, lovely grounds, with all their flowers and greenery. I’ve been coming here for 35 years, and I always leave feeling relaxed and tranquil. The food is delicious. We especially loved the duck in the main restaurant, and the breakfast yogurt and berries are a real treat, with a generous serving of berries. Afternoon tea was lovely, too, and the scones were as good as the ones we had in London. I also love spending the day reading by the fire in the library.

Breakfast was outstanding, and dinner was five-star for us: a crisp Caesar salad with freshly made dressing and filets cooked exactly medium. The main building has historical furniture, while our guest room was simple and very clean. You’ll need to provide your own password to access streaming channels. The grounds are beautifully maintained, and there’s lots of parking, which makes things convenient.

We’ve returned to the Arizona Inn several times and keep loving it. There’s great food, tennis, and a beautiful pool, plus an elegant library and living room where cozy fires and morning coffee make it easy to settle in. Tea is served on a few afternoons as well. The rooms are comfortable and immaculate, though they can vary quite a bit even within the same category. For a particularly lovely stay, treat yourself to one with a patio.

We live in town but stayed over on New Year’s Eve to avoid driving after a show at the new music venue La Rosa nearby. It turned into a wonderful night. We started with a cocktail and great service in the bar, then enjoyed the fire in the library while rare desert rain fell outside. The room was old but nicely kept, and the bed was large and very comfortable. My only complaint was the rain dripping in the drain pipes outside our room. I’m a light sleeper, so I heard the steady drip, but as someone who lives in the desert, I love the rain. Love, love, love this place.
