I stayed for two nights two weeks ago. The room was decent for the price, a little shabby as expected, but the hotel felt almost abandoned: no security, staff rarely around, no signs, and the lobby usually closed. The surrounding area seemed a bit down and out. I wouldn't feel safe here with a family or as a woman on my own. They charged my card the $100 deposit outright, rather than leaving it pending, and said it would be credited back in 4-5 days. It never arrived. I called over and over for weeks and usually got an answering machine. On the few occasions I reached someone, they sounded helpful and promised to check with the manager and call the next day, but never did. I've seen lots of recent reviews on different booking sites making similar deposit complaints, so the place seems to have a pattern of taking security deposits. I imagine guests who are vulnerable, don't live nearby, or have little recourse may be at particular risk. I think they market to Sonoran citizens crossing the border to vacation in Tucson. Update: after posting this review, I kept after hotels.com (Expedia) and spoke with a manager. They were helpful and contacted the property, and about a week later my deposit came back. They were told the hotel had just changed management and was working on its problems and held deposits. Your experience may vary. Good luck. This place could be a good value.

The bed was quite comfortable, the only reason I gave this room two stars. I had reserved a king but was given two queens, and one box spring still had a plastic cover on it that was old, torn, and full of holes. The room smelled strongly of chemicals, as though someone had used them to cover an earlier bad odor. The large closets were useless without hangers, and nobody seemed willing to remove the trash. The jacuzzi was out of service and half full of water that looked gross. I was recovering from a broken leg and requested a first-floor room, but they insisted I was on the second floor. When I asked where the elevator was, the clerk apologized and said there wasn't one to that part of the hotel. I asked about a first-floor room at a sister property or somewhere with an elevator, and he said there was nothing he could do. Nobody was available to help me get upstairs, so I had to haul myself, two suitcases, and more up the stairs with my broken leg. Customer care was absent. Housekeeping isn't provided unless you make a separate special request, which I only learned at checkout, not check-in. I ran out of toilet paper, and the tissue box had no tissues. I won't stay here again.

The rooms are freshly redone and nicer than places that charge much more, and the staff make the stay. Dinorah and Yartza were fantastic. I work in this industry and would hire either of them immediately. Dinorah works hard and is very professional, and deserves a raise. After the trouble I had, two lovely women apologized and made sure I got the nights I had paid for without hassle. I booked again and am even looking into moving here since they also have apartments. My first check-in attempt was around 12:30. A man said the room was ready but still refused to check me in before 3. Later, after my car broke down, I called to say I might arrive around 1 a.m. He told me not to worry and to ring the bell for someone to come out. Nobody came, and I wasn't allowed to get a room, so I spent the night in my car at five months pregnant.

The staff and management were rude and unprofessional. They kept my $100 refundable deposit, claiming I damaged the room, though the damage was already there when I checked in. I’m trying to get that money back, and I’m also seeking a full refund for a week I booked through them but couldn’t use because of the deposit issue from an earlier stay. Booking.com has been helpful throughout the process. The place was not clean, and I would never stay here again or recommend it. I’ve filed a police report and plan to take further legal action. If you want to feel scammed and have your money taken, this is the place. I’d give it zero stars if I could.

Elizabeth was wonderful, kind, thoughtful, and professional, and Brenda was great too. When my family and I had a problem, they were so kind and helped us. I’d been unsure about staying because of some reviews, but the staff changed my mind. Good management makes a real difference. I enjoyed my visit and will recommend Las Palmas Hotel to friends and family. I won't stay anywhere else in Tucson.
