Sunland Motel

The buildings are older and have a lot of character, but everything was VERY clean. The innkeeper was super nice and accommodating. He did knock late in the evening and early in the morning to check on us, which felt a bit intrusive, though I appreciated that he cared about our comfort. I'd absolutely stay again and recommend booking here.

I was in the room for less than five minutes and still couldn't get a refund. The air conditioner didn't work and was falling apart, there were holes in the blankets, and the refrigerator didn't look like it worked. The bathroom was much too small. When I asked for another room, they said all the rooms were the same. Definitely don't recommend.

I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. The man at the window was divisive and spoke to me in a scowling, sing-song tone that felt blatantly discriminatory, so I shared what happened on Google. I took a few pictures to go with this review. Everything I've submitted for review actually happened. I went to ask about the nightly rate at the window. A little man in dingy, sweat-stained shirt sleeves opened the slot in the barely transparent plexiglass they had as a COVID-19 safety shield. I asked, "how much for a night?" He said, "65 a Night plus room Deposit plus key Deposit." I said candidly that a few years ago it was only 40 a night. His expression darkened and he replied, "Now it is 85 a night." I asked if he was really adding twenty dollars just because I said it had been less last time. The grimy little manager yelled, "The cheap hotels are down the street."

This is one of the cleaner "roach motels" on Miracle Mile, but I wouldn't go back. At check-in, the guy charged my debit card, photocopied my driver's license, then wrote all the card details on a slip of paper. When I asked why he needed to write them down, he pretended not to understand English. Since the card was already charged, there was no reason for him to record the number, expiration date, and CVV with a copy of my DL. That's a clear fraud red flag, and I got a new card. He also tried to short me half of my $20 deposit, asking, "ten dollars?" when I requested it back. I told him, "No. I gave you $20!" The whole thing felt sketchy.
